Has there been any discussion about the types of scanning equipment being used? It's rarely specified in the liner notes. Does anyone have the inside scoop on what scanners certain companies (Criterion, Flicker Alley, etc.) use and the quality of their scans?

I always assume that a film scanned in 4K is likely better than a 2K scan, even if it's only released on BD50 discs. Seems like a clue that the title could be released on Ultra HD in 4K down the road, as well.

One of my favorites recently that I bought has been Police Story 3 Supercop from the 4k remastered version. A definite upgrade over all the previous blu rays before by alot. Extremely pleased.

La Bamba was released by Twilight Time in 2014 (region free), but I haven't been able to find anything that mentions if it's 4K or not.

It's surprising that the 4K-transfer of Heathers hasn't gotten a Region A release yet. Here's a good review of the Arrow one you mentioned: http://www.dvdcompare.net/review.php?rid=5487

Oldboy (the original 2003 Korean version, to be clear) just got a 4K UHD release, as well.

I'm guessing this thread is no longer being updated anymore due to the wide availability of many classics on 4K UHD now (I own the 2019 UHD of The Shining, for example, but it's not mentioned here).

Was Gandhi even scanned at 4K? on caps a holics, looking at the comparisons it honestly feels like the same master used on the DVD but in 1080p unless they did a 4K scan that I don't know about.
