The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Halloween (Rob Zombie)
Donnie Darko
Apocalypse Now
LOTR 1-3 (Extended Cuts just don't do it for me)
Dawn of the Dead (1978) (Extended Cut is still a great movie, but the theatrical/director's cut is much better imo)
Manhunter
The Outsiders
Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
Spider-Man 2
Sin City
Alien
Deep Red
Kill Bill 1+2 (I prefer the US Versions over the Japanese versions)
Grindhouse (better than both extended cuts)

Gotta agree with The Exorcist. I know they seemed to make a big deal out of that spider-walking scene, but I thought it sucked, and was way too much way too soon.

yeah but most extended cuts just throw back in scenes that aren't needed - they were cut for a reason. it is a marketing thing now.

honestly i can't think of any director's cuts that i have scene that are worse than the original version because there are relatively few director's cuts out there. there are tons of extended versions that don't add anything to the story but most don't make it worse.

The only films I can think of where it bothers me that the director went back and fiddled with it is the original Star Wars Trilogy.

This is compounded by the fact that we don't have access to the original cuts. I'd be more willing to overlook Lucas's meddling if we actually had the theatrical cuts on Blu-ray.

99.9% of all director's cuts are worse than the theatrical releases. There are very few exceptions. Blade Runner Final Cut comes to mind. Maybe Rambo.

The only version of The 40-Year-Old Virgin I have ever seen in the extended cut, and I've never had a problem with the pacing. ALL of the jokes in that movie are gold. Hell, even the twenty hours' worth of deleted scenes on the Blu are full of big laughs.

Live Free Or Die Hard. Yeah, they added some (badly-dubbed) F-Bombs and McClane's catchphrase isn't obscured by a gunshot, but the CGI blood squibs look terrible, and they inexplicably remove a number of McClane's funnier lines (like "That'll wake the neighbors", and "I was out of bullets"). I know people irrationally despise the film for the "pu$$y" PG-13 rating, but even the "unrated" cut is a clumsy substitution for a genuine R-rated Die Hard movie.

I truly believe if Donner had stayed on, his Superman II would have been better than we got (which was good overall, but had some questionable choices by new director Lester). As it stands, the RDC is just a what-if scenario that somehow actually got halfway completed to be sold to curious people like myself.

Donnie Darko.

Had he have just added the deleted scenes and left the rest alone Id have been much happier with it.

The main difference is that there's a lot more ritualistic stuff for the gods and the dead done in Troy. At least, that's what seemed to draw out the film longer when I last watched it. I think it's a nice touch to involve you more in the society and how they function, though I'm not sure all of it was necessary as a matter of pacing.

Yes, pretty much every one I've ever seen. In all honesty, there's only a handful of DC's that I've ever cared for.

It also used different music, and cut the scene of Paris practicing with his bow. The music changes are bad to pointless. The Hector vs Achilles scene has music from Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes. When they constructed the scene the Planet Of the Apes musuc was used as a temp track and the director liked it so much he put it in the DC. I think it is awful in the scene and robs it of the restrained methodical rythm the original track lent the scene.

The Warriors. Comic transfers?! Ugh.

I also like the DC of Troy.

I'll have to watch that part again. I could tell there were differences throughout the film but I didn't pick up on the musical difference during that scene. Interesting.
