The extended cut is just more of this dog sh!t. Doesn't improve the movie at all.

the theatrical cut looks like it was cut with gardening shears - wish Warner's would just let David Ayer release his original cut, this feels like a compromise cut.

I actually like the Director's Cut of Payback better than the Theatrical Version. It's much darker, violent and grittier, which is what the director meant before he was fired by the studio because his movie didn't play out like Lethal Weapon. The DC is the director's original vision.

Has anyone mentioned the first ALIEN as well? I love both versions of ALIENS, but that "director's cut" of ALIEN released in the early 2000s was pretty pointless. It didn't fix any of the continuity errors (like the disappearing cup when Mother activates in the beginning), nor took liberties by cleaning/adding any FX*... they just added some tints and slimmed the editing between scenes.

* not saying ALIEN "needs" modernized F/X; I'm just saying that if you are going to do a "special edition", have some fun with it. Preserve the original, but have fun with the SE (improve the star fields; get rid of matte lines or the hydraulic arm lowering the Nostromo model; add external visuals outside the windows; etc)... otherwise, what's the point? In the end, the ALIEN DC was just lazy.
Ridley Scott explained the reason behind it on the BD intro. Fox wanted to re-release Alien in cinemas with additional footage but he objected because the theatrical cut was his directors cut but he made a compromise and re-edited the film as an alternate cut. It was marketed as a directors cut by the studio

Enter the Dragon the extra 3 or so minutes slows the pacing at the beginning and makes the small snippet at the end pointless.

Hence it being a different cut from the director's.

It still is a Director's Cut, but not as good as the one without The Black Freighter stuff.

If we're talking THE director's cut, as in, the cut Snyder prefers for the film, it would be the standard Director's Cut version. But the Ultimate Cut was put together by the director for fans, kind of like Peter Jackson creating the extended cuts of the Lord of the Rings films.

I've never seen the Ultimate Cut of Watchmen, but I have the separate Black Freighter disc that also includes the Under the Hood "TV Special." I actually really like to watch that disc before the movie, as it kind of sets you into the world of the Watchmen before diving into the film itself. Not exactly how the graphic novel provides snippets of it as the story unfolds, but it works well.

All the trailers had many great short moments, that seemed to be part of actual longer scenes. But no! The short trailer excerpts ARE the actual scenes!!! That's why the editing is all over the place. You have a bunch of short snippets that have to work as scenes, but they don't and the pacing is terrible. Also no coherent storyline. What where they thinking?! The extended cut doesn't really fix that. They just throw in even more little snippets that don't work in context.

ugh - my head hurts - I so wanted to like this movie, but the editing killed it.

Indeed. Isn't that what director's cuts are? To me, a director's cut is the cut the director/creator prefers. That's what makes it different from every other cut.

Alien 3 director's or assembly cut didn't work in my opinion. While some added footage helped, most of the alternate stuff was pointless and the alternate ending sucked. The theatrical cut while choppy in some scenes, works better for me.

Alien. Although the theatrical cut is technically Ridley Scott's DC, the newer version that was marketed as the DC, is definitely inferior. The theatrical version is perfect.

The Warriors: Terrible idea by Walter Hill to make it a "comic book". We already knew the movie was tongue in cheek. No need to add comic book shit to it.

Amadeus: While I enjoyed
[Show spoiler]looking at Costanzies massive hooters
the DC felt too drawn out.

I think the smiley face was meant to punctuate that he knows that.
