LOL, I remember that movie. "You've got to break the ice, it's like time is standing still." or something like that.

To Paidgeek:
Saw this written before but never answered. What would the possibilities be of releasing movies on Blu-Ray before they come out on DVD? Even 1 week advanced release would really increase the awareness of this beautiful format ![]() |

Hi, I posted this question at AVS but no one answered: Iron man is a paramount release, but searching on google I found a press release from Marvel where it said that SONY had the rights in JAPAN and SPAIN. Is that true? Does it include the home video market? That would mean a Blu-ray release, at least in those markets right? Thanks in advance.

Not an insider, but to answer a question that was asked some pages ago, Next is a movie with split rights on some international markets.
For instance, it was released in cinemas in France through TFM (TF1's theatrical branch) and TF1 Vidéo will handle the DVD release. This company has yet to announce their hi-def plans, though. It's likely that Paramount doesn't control Next in other key markets. |

Maybe this has been answered in the past...I am guessing it has, but a rumor is floating around at no other than AVS that 1.0 players may be unable to play 1.1 discs correctly. This apparently from a person at Denon...heres the quote and Link:

You've already seen the process they'll use in action
You know when the key is spinning on Pirates? It's doing more than loading BD-J, it's testing the capabilities of your player. Unlike DVD, BR menus are generated like Flash on a webpage, if your deck doesn't support PiP, then it simply won't put up that option on the menu. If you have a slower CPU inside on a cheap deck, it may load low-res assets. All those kind of things are possible with the dynamic environment on BR. |

At least the BDA has the decency to tell you when the players deviate from standards... toshiba just sells crippled players, and touts how inexpensive their players are.

The nice thing about BD is that even with all these different profiles and whatnot, the feature should always be able to play in any player old and new, correct?
I have a question about PiP. Is it possible to watch the PiP by itself, as in not overlayed over the video and full screen? If so, wouldn't this be a solution for older players as well? While a Profile 1.0 player can't play both video streams at the same time, they still can get the extra content by playing it by itself, perhaps from a seperate selection in the extras menu. That is if the stream of the PiP can be played that way. I hope it can, even if I have a player that can do the PiP properly. Sometimes you just want to watch the extras and not have the feature playing. Any insiders know if this is possible with BD-J? |

I haven't read the discussion on AVS, but I assume the discussion is regarding players where the persistent memory is provided to the player by the user in form of a memory card. From a content authoring point of view, there is no difference between "no memory card" and "out of memory" (which obviously needs to be handled). The disc will never get a "no memory card" message, just a "out of memory" message. And therefore there are not 5 profiles to accommodate for. |

Oh, yeah... a question. Can we please bribe Warner to go BD elusive and get this nonsense over with? Alternatively, exclusivity arrangements with both Best Buy and Wal-mart will do. I'll happily chip in for the fund.
