Paidgeek, (since u missed it on page 100)

Is the Australian Version of Spiderman Trilogy (Region B) going to have the same audio tracks as the US versions? Also are they region free, or will only 1&2 be region free.

I ask about the audio tracks as there seems to be a disturbing trend witht he Australian versions of some Blu-ray movies, in that we get short changed big time. Out latest example is Rocky Balboa which doesnt come with a PCM track, but a DTS 1.5 mbps instead !!!! Can you believe that.

I'm glad I bought an imprted PS3 and import 95% of my titles.

Is there a reason why they do things like this?

thanks and keep up the good work

The Australian release of Rocky Balboa has lossless audio. DTS-HD master audio.

Maybe, and then will his current player support it?
Will one need all new equipment?

Yes, but it's not lossless. You don't think a PCM or TrueHD track would sound even better?

Poor paidgeek, I think the mods should consider a "one and only" Spiderman Trilogy FAQ thread that covers all regions. Seems like every question to PG is regarding Spiderman audio options by region.

What are the audio options for the HD DVD version. Oh wait, there are none.

Other than the forthcoming Denon, no one I can recall has positively committed to a player which decodes DTS HD MA. The press release on the new Samsungs says "DTS lossless", which may, or may not mean MA.

There are a number of new AV Receivers with support for DTS HD or DTS HD MA, the only issue remaining is getting the raw bitstream out of the playback device and into the AVR (since I guess it's not mandatory even in HDMI 1.3 to support sending the raw bitstream out).

@paidgeek:

Any info on whether or not the PS3 will be able to send out the bitstream of these high end CODECs to external decoders? Is it even physically possible?

Paidgeek will Close Encounters of the Third Kind have DTS-HD MA, HRA or just plain DTS?

dvdtown.com only lists DTS.

Paidgeek,

How is the picture quality of the upcoming Spider-Man 3 release? Can we expect even better picture than Casino Royale (which is very very good in my opinion)?

Keep up the good work

A question to Paid and the BD insiders:

Take a look at this post in the Buy now or wait for 1.1 players post-10/31? thread at AVS :

Quote:
This is a question I also asked myself earlier this week. On 7/30 I made a one day no research decision to buy the Toshiba HD-A2 pretty much solely for the fact that 300 was coming out the next day. I had some problems playing 300 on Tuesday and found this forum to get some answers. After 2 weeks of reading posts and 5-6 trips to BB to buy movies without finding 1 that I wanted that I didn't already own in SD. I asked myself why did I spend 300 bucks for something that is doing very little more than what I already have. I took advantage of the 30 day return and my check is currently on its way to me from BB. I realized that like everything else only those with dedicated deep pockets can afford to spend this kind of money on something that will be replaced by a new generation every 6 months. I just became very unsure and realized that I would probably regret early adoption 6 months from now if HD DVD disappeared like you may regret it if movies next year will not play on your BR player for some reason like 1.1 compatibility. I think I will purchase a BR next time but plan to wait until someone can tell me for sure that I will not have to buy another one in a year because movies won't play on the current one. I do think that the PS3 could be a good option just because of high resale value to gamers even if it won't accept advanced content. I don't see a PS4 coming for at least another decade.
Just my thoughts in a similar situation, take it for what it is....the ramblings of a confused man
I find it very interesting because there are definitely a lot of people like him out there that will ask themselves the same question. Logic (and the comments from the Insiders) tells us that the basic movie functions on the upcoming discs should work flawlessly on pre-1.1 players... but then again, we're not the ones who need convincing...

So I'm wondering if the BD studios plan to address this very question in a "more formal" way that goes beyond the scope of the specialized forums, so that people like the poster, will be able to buy into BD with confidence.

Outside of the minority who read these forums (or those at AVS), things like "firmware" and "profile" are meaningless and would be met with blank stares by the vast majority.

i don't think there are many people at all who will ask themselves this question. The only question most will ask is "will this win the format war?"

The Australian version will have the same English tracks as the North American version including 24bit Dolby THD and 16bit LPCM. The Australian disc will play in all regions.
