I'm sure we're all aware that BIG information can't or shouldn't be leaked out too early, but I can't image it will be to long before we hear some significant news from the Blu team. This Paramount/DW deal was a HUGE blow and I'd be amazed if we didn't hear something very soon from the BDA... let's just hope it's really good news.

BTW, a share the overwhelming concern over Warner/NL given how this Paramount/DW deal popped out of nowhere.

Padigeek:
Sorry if this has been asked a thousand times, but is Spider Man 3 going to be region coded (both European and US version)?

Is there any technical reason movies like PotC can't resume from where they left off when playback is stopped?

I know this was the case when I had the Sony 300 player (forget the exact model) and seem to recall this occurring on my PS3 as well.

Just curious -- it's one of those annoying things that I hope isn't a consequence of the Java stuff.

Thanks

(Hey - a non paramount-related question!)

I don't know of any other big announcements. But that does not mean that one may not be forthcoming. I am closer to some studios than others, so who knows...

What is this I'm hearing of a major Blu-ray announcement soon? When/where did this rumor start?

To keep things on-topic...

Paid,

Is it possible for Sony/other studios to release HD(1080p) trailers for upcoming movies that are going to be released on Blu-ray.

For example, Sony is releasing "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", to have an HD trailer for that would be awesome!

Is this possible?

This is what really worries me. If we loose Warner that will be a really big blow. Is the BDA or any other company/group doing anything to prevent Warner from dropping Blu-ray as well? Or will this be a Blu-less christmas?

I agree. Who knows what could be going on. It's impossible. Here's a story, I was a LEVEL 2 EVP, and I found out via the newspaper that my rather large company was merging with another. I had no idea that was coming. Why? Cause I wasn't on the "secret merger task force with the M&A guys".

I still laugh at that day. I got calls over the weekend about another deal being announced that day, and I turned over the paper, and my company was in the headlines overshadowing the deal I was called about on the weekend. LOL.

You can bet your last dollar both sides are, or more likely have already courted Warner/NL.

While I'm sure both sides read the threads here (and at AVS) for ideas and info, I somehow think they might come to many of the same obvious conclusions we do all on their own.

While I am not an insider, I believe I remember reading that the lack of BD+ was why they stopped releasing, they were waiting for BD+

Hi Paidgeek and Penton-Man

This may have been shot down before but do you think now Sony, Disney and Fox should increase their output of titles in the coming months? I know Paramount wasn't exactly inundating us with waves but perception is the key here.

Paidgeek,

Any news on "THE INCREDIBLES" coming to BD? Any chance of whispering it to someone....

Insiders:

Please do something to shore up Warner Bros. support! Everyone is saying on other forums that Warner Bros is going to announce exclusive support for HD-DVD at CEDIA. That will be enough to make it impossible for Blu-ray to win.

If the HD-DVD promotion group can come up with $150mil in incentives for Paramount, why can't the BDA do the same thing for Warner or Universal?

I hope the BDA remains deadly serious about winning the war. The future royalty streams from a Blu-ray victory will far outweigh the cost of an incentive package today.

I think I speak for all Blu-ray fans when I say that I hope you guys do whatever it takes to hold this thing together!

While I agree that would suck, what did everyone think was going to happen originally when Warner and Paramount were still in the HD-DVD only camp and we had the even split of studios. Basically you are back to square one, circa 2006 (or whenever).

So does anyone want to guess when and what the BDA response to this will be? Possibly no news until CEDIA?

A while back I said we needed some word from Fox. And we got a positive hint from Penton-Man (thank you sir). The reality turned out to be impressive, but of course seems reactive to the Paramount situation.
Gary my guess is that they might have wanted to wait for CEDIA or some other soon to be show.

fuad

I don't if someone has commented on this, but I want to clarify that unlike Warner, Paramount was never in BDA group, they're only blu-ray supporting company. Warner was offered a member seat in BDA, they signed a bunch of contract agreements, they paid the membership-fee and in turn will get some royalty from any blu-ray profit in the future.

I was surprised that Paramount was never offered a seat in BDA when they decided to support blu-ray a year ago
