I may order it again on Oct 16 when DUD releases Transformers.
I think you should skip it if you're not crazy about the movie. For me it's a 13.50 Fry's Special, but more because of Coppola's commentary than the movie, to be honest. The format war isn't worth buying stuff you normally wouldn't. The only justification for that is the WAF if you've just bought a new [pick one: player, receiver, display].

Paidgeek,
sorry to ask another question, I watched spider-man 2.1 last night, which again the picture was great, did this title use seamless branching or was it encoded twice on the disc? I only ask because I noticed absolutely no pause in picture or sound and normally there is a little of both on my system when watching a "Seamless" branching film on regular DVD. So if it was seamless branching I am so happy because there is nothing to distract me from the film anymore.

Well, more people who got DRACULA early are chiming in with their disappointment. Most are saying that even though the film's photography may indeed be soft, the BD looks no better than a regular DVD and the color in some scenes looks like it was deliberately dialed down, (Coppolla afterthought...?) That coupled with print damage, just seems like a mediocre job maybe. Great way to bring his works into the HD world. People are cancelling left and right and one person who got it already put it for sale in the AVS forum market after ONE day.

I don't know, I keep hoping for the best but so far everyone who has watched it said it's incredibly disappointing and about the worst BD PQ-wise they've seen.

My copy should get here today or tom'w but of this really WAS botched, so much for Coppolla's films being done in-house.

fingers crossed but right now I'm not hopeful. This was just about my most looked forward to title and one of the main reasons I bought a BD player last year.

This is off-topic to this thread.

If you are trying to express your disappointment without watching the BD first, do know that Coppola was consulted about the project. Having him on board the project means that this is NOT a half-ass job. It is SIMPLY the best that the film can look.

That is the reality of some soft-focus shot films. You can't sharpen them EVER or you might lose the director's intent. I just hope that paidgeek and SPHE team are not too dishearten to see comments like this.

RB Films' Nature's Journey should do the trick nicely. :-)

Spiderman 2 uses bonafide seamless branching. I hope we get more positive comments on this feature like yours. I think this a good feature for use on other titles. It's a lot of work, but it shows a real strength of the format.

I just got off the phone with the orthopedist who I asked to fax me a copy of the O.R. Report.

He only said one thing to me…..”Behave yourself”.
(Apparently, in the recovery room, while coming out of anesthesia, I had very little inhibition [I blame that on the drugs they gave me], while conversing with some of the nurses caring for me. )

Hey Paid,

I know that you would prefer not talking about up-coming releases but you recently said that the Da Vinci Code would not be out this year - anywhere. I have it on release from a source (big website) for 3 December this year in the UK. Just wanted to confirm, thanks.

Just incase you missed this:

During the opening credits where the Marines are doing their riffle exercises. As I read the opening credits, it seems like the screen is shaking horizontally. I watched this title again last night, and that was the only time I noticed it.

I watched it last night also, and my recollection is that it seemed as though the credits at times were moving sideways against the film background. I believe it happened when Cruise's name was shown.
