IIRC paidgeek and Penton Man previously advised that Grindhouse from Weinstein was basically a done deal on BD; just wondering:

1. Is there any further information on this release?

2. Has Weinstein decided to go format neutral generally (for all future releases), or just for this title? Any word for instance on other titles such as 1408?

thxs in advance

Furthermore, any word on when we may hear something from Weinstein announcing any kind of support for Blu-ray (whether one title or just generally)?

Apparently not………………
http://www.hollywoodinhidef.com/inside_detail.php?id=10

Here’s a little tidbit for you (as I don’t think David Mallet mentioned it in his interview with Hettrick) ……………..

Often when David Mallet does concerts and utilizes multiple cameras simultaneously, he assigns one camera man the sole duty of focusing on and shooting the moving fingers of the same guitarist throughout the whole concert.

You gotta feel for the camera dude that is selected for that intensive chore!
I would much prefer to have the responsibility of focusing a camera lens on Beyoncé’s “back” throughout an entire concert……if given a choice, as there’s far more junk in that trunk.

Anyway, next time I get a chance, I plan to ask Floyd if/when? we all can expect a Pink “Wall” to be coming the Blu-ray way in the future.

Update on my “situation” for anyone interested.
I made it out to the two “girls” this afternoon (one leg and all) to bring them water.
The only *breath-taking* pain I really had to endure was the act of getting on and off my bike……nearly kilt me.

To paidgeek……………
One of the girls was patiently waiting for my arrival (as usual) under her favorite tree.

Well, I watched most of Dracula. Definitely a mxed bag. There are indeed some scenes where the detail looks virtually identical to the SB dvd. But since alot of it has scenes with double exposures, lap dissolves that were optically printed, (especially the beginning, any montage etc...) that's to be expected. It looks like they DIDN'T use DVNR, so for me that is a big plus as I'd rather see grain then the dancing, wzxy artifacts of too much DVNR like the new Evil Dead II supposedly has.
The transfer is a bit darker than the SB, not a bad thing per se, just noticeable.
(I A/B'd with my HDMI splitter, same input, same settings. PS3 and oppo upconverting player. The color is a bit tighter looking, (not a bad thing since thSB had parts were the color just looked a bit TOO much IMHO...)
Now the part that was mentioned. In a few select scenes, the color DEFINTELY has been altered. The scene where Lucy and Mina meet in the garden, (not their first scene, that was fine...) noticeably has the background color desaturated, the actors faces look normal so I think that was done digitally.
The scene where they confront Vampire Lucy looks MUCH different as once again, they seemed to have drained the color in the background (set) Before the whole scene was very bluish, (which looked a bit goofy IMHO and made it not creepy at all. Now the background looks grey, the faces (except for Lucy) look the same.

I have 2 pics. here, blue version=SB
more monochrome=BD.

Sorry, no tripod. but EXACT same exposure setting on dig. camera, done totally in manual mode so any color, brightness shift is the thransfers themselves. Would love for Xylon from AVS to do screencaps. Pics are purely to show color and brightness difference, not detail.

Pretty big difference. Honestly, I think the new version works better and is more effective. Purists will disagree.

Also the entire end chase has exactly the OPPOSITE.

The sunset time scenes appear to have had the orange color pumped up, much more than the SB.
The end scene where mina kisses impaled Dracula and he reverts back to the prince has another tweak. The are around the candles when they relight are destaurated until they relight, then the scene goes color. There are halos around the candellight where you can see the effect. Xylon again can probably show this. Also when the cross heals, it's MUCH more orangey and actually LESS detailed than the SB.

So overall, a mixed bag. I does look very filmlike. Is a nit darker. Some of the night castle longshots look worse, the castle just blends into the night sky. Grain is visible and seems well handled. There are some scene like Dracula and Mina's first meeting in London (day) that look very nice. Some look virtually identical to the SB. One ore two odd shots look LESS detailed.
NONE of it ever has what many call "3-d POP!" but considering the film itself, that probably wasn't likely.

Is it as bad as Bracke says, no. but it could possible have been better.

Overall, it's the best presentation yet and if you love the film, a no-brainer. The supps are excellent.

Penton!

Any word on what Lionsgate is up to? I know we've recently had some blu ray releases from them but NO future announcements.

Just making sure they're still on the blu side

Thanks

Yes I know they did, however, they are releasing Bug and Skinwalkers on DVD. No blu ray.

And I'm talking about future titles. When was the last time Lionsgate made an announcement?

They're low budget productions and catalog titles that aren't going to look that great in HD. Not worth the investment at this point in time

Glengarry Glen Ross looked fabulous on D-Theater tape. I'd like to have a copy of that title on Blu-ray since I sold my D-Theater collection!

As I recall they're still recycling the non-anamorphic LD transfer of The Doors on DVD

Insiders:

Has anyone heard any rumblings out of Lionsgate as to if they plan on bringing their fantastic AMC series 'Mad Men' to Blu-ray? The show itself is a true masterpiece. Being that the show is shot on film and is only available in SD on AMC, this title would be a natural choice for a BD presentation. For those of you who haven't seen the show, it is from Matthew Wiener -- one of the writers and producers of 'The Sopranos' and is, in my opinion, the single best thing to hit TV in years. Check it out!

Thanks!

Just finished watching A Few Good Men tonight and it was stunning. The fine detail in the movie was amazing. Anyway, just wanted to say, y'all did a great job with it.
