I don't think the two highest-selling HD DVD titles (The Departed and Batman Begins) even broke 50,000 combined, let alone 100,000.

mmmm so BD sales must be hovering over the 1M mark at the moment, maybe 1.1M at the moment while HD DVD would be mostly getting around 850,000...

Paidgeek,

Congratulations to your team at Sony Pictures on a fine release, and to the entire BDA for taking us into the next age of home entertainment.

I look forward to riding the BD surge in my home theater.

Now, let's get Spidey out soon.

It's going to be quite embarrassing for ol' HD DVD.

I can see the spin now: "Only 100k units, but there are 1 million ps3's. You should sell 10 times that amount!!"

If the master for Spiderman 2 is in 24/48, can we get that on the Blu-ray version in LPCM?

Well with that argument you could say there's 10 million xBoxes, why isn't X selling 100k then

Over a 100k sold on CR and this only after a week of release?! Wow!

But HD-DUD still has the argument that it has a "better attachment rate"

Hi paidgeek - do you know how close BD-J is to allowing Warner to release IME titles that have been released on HD DVD but not Blu-ray?
WOuld you have any idea how much work is involved for them to release a title on Blu-ray with the same interactivity?
I'm really looking forward to Blu-ray versions of Troy, Batman Begins, V for Vendetta and others.

As noted elsewhere, the most interesting comparisons will be with PotC's and Cars vs movies like Ghost Rider and Night at the Museum.

While P's and Cars are big sellers, many people own the DVD already. With Casino Royale, this was not the case.

The question is how many people will rebuy stuff they have on DVD already (or perhaps how many people never got the DVD cos they want the BD and are willing to wait...)

So we wait....

Paidgeek: This has got to be the thing we most frequently ask for updates on. I wish we knew more. Given how many copies of Batman Begins have sold on HD-DVD this would create a huge sales surge for BD.

For example 'The Holiday' is being released on HD-DVD in Australia because it is being distributed by Universal for international releases, but this is a movie that I wanted to pickup on Blu-ray, which I can only do from the states, however because it is a new release it will probably be region encoded A.

Also what are the chances of Sony putting in their press releases for titles the region encoding of the disc, to completely cut out any confusion for international consumers. Or is this already being done and US sites are just not reporting it?
I checked on this title and it is coded for region 'A'.

The online information should be correct if it references the newer titles (March and onward) which now have the correct region code information. We do not list the region code in the press releases because these announcements only happen in the markets where the advertised disc will play.

Sorry we can't be of more help on this title. We will be happy to author it for Universal on BD though...
