Nobody gotten #2 of the trifecta yet ? i.e….. "What you got on the spit pilgrim?”
Perhaps I am confusing some by my categorization of the movie as a *western*. Maybe it would have been more appropriate to place it in the *mountain man/trapper* genre. Does that help? |

![]() I really enjoyed both of these westerns, especially 3:10 to Yuma and I don’t want to say anything else to spoil the fun for people that haven’t seen it and are planning to, once it debuts on Blu-ray……just that, I highly recommend it. I also enthusiastically recommend The Assassination of Jesse James to people that like the western genre. The only downside to TAoJJ is its length which made it a tad tedious to sit through during the theatrical presentation but, that shouldn’t be a problem with the Blu-ray because home theater enthusiasts can just hit the pause on their remote and get a snack, drain the lizard or what not, if they get the urge. Roger Deakins was the lenser for TAoJJ (and coincidentally also on No Country for Old Men which is essentially a modern day western) and his shots of the landscape of Alberta (where Open Range was filmed) are truly stunning. Personally, I found it esp. satisfying as I’ve done the TransRockies mountain bike race a couple times and they run you thru Alberta during this event. Beautiful area of Canada ![]() P.S. I never thought the loonie/U.S. dollar conversion rate would be where it is today. ![]() What the hell, you Canadian Blu-ray members ![]() Last edited by Penton-Man; 11-23-2007 at 10:41 PM. Just saw 3:10 to Yuma at a press screening today.
(What can I say, I live in a different region. It probably won't be out on BD here for a good six months. More power to my Region A PS3...) It's an excellent film, more than anything -- a compelling character study on top of all the genre trappings, which seem truly integrated into the story. You never feel as if you're watching a Western for the sake of a Western. Incidentally, this is why I loved to hear that one of the Sheriff's top five men was called... Sam Fuller. ![]() (Speaking of Fuller, I haven't had a chance to see the new version of the I Shot Jesse James story. Bummer.) |

That would be Onkyo's issue to fix. I have an Onkyo HTR640 connected to my PS3 over HDMI with no popping problem. On AVS, the 605 is known to have the problem depending on the firmware installed in the Onkyo.

Paidgeek, just a quick check back on a question I asked a while ago...
I asked if there was any plan to have the PS3 be capable of streaming Matroska (mkv) files (matroska is an open source container, not a codec - the primary codec used with mkvs is x264)... at the time you asked for more information on them... and I THINK I sent this link, if not I truly apologize. That said, has there been any indication if it will be supported? It seems that the Netgear EVA8000 is working this direction in their newest beta firmware, but personally, I would prefer to use my tried and true PS3 over another piece of equipment. Thanks in advance! Scott |
