I hope there's something soon. I've been watching a few PS3 related forums for a while now, and nearly every week since July, there's been a different someone who's come up with a (usually poor) reason why the open Home beta would be coming out that Thursday. Needless to say the hype in those forums has degraded into a great deal of frustration.

Obviously the insiders here have an excellent track record, so I'm not doubting that something's happening soon, but if it's too far in the future, I fear blu-ray fans are going to get a little battle weary.

But the Alan Bell comment makes me go wow.

Alan Bell is supervising our fan-belt inspections.
Does this mean what I think it means..? You are getting ready to run a very large number of BD50's for a Warner Brothers (New Line) movie with a lot of "fans"..?

"One format to rule them all."

"doomsday" sort of a thing here??

LOTR released exclusively on Blu-Ray?

So in one thread Penton tells us not to get our hopes up because "these things take time" and a day later it's blatantly stated that Warner is Blu exclusive. If that is the case, how "soon" is an official announcement actually going to come. I think most of us are anticipating CES, but that latest post makes it sound like it's coming tomorrow!

Some of Penton's previous coded revelings have taken place with a 24 hour window.

I'm not saying that's the case here, but it is food for thought.

yeah, penton seemed incredibly revealing tonight. like we should be ready to see an announcement anytime, not something that is still a month away.

I'm actually new to the forums, but didn't he post here about Paramount the day before it happened? Which could mean the latest most blatant message means we get confirmation tomorrow? That would be amazing but I highly doubt it will happen. Only 2 days after HP released...

you gotta figure that they sold 75-80% of the HPs they are going to sell before CES and by announcing blu exclusivity, they are going to stop a lot of cheapo DUD purchases which will make mass adoption of blu faster and easier. i do think that hd dvd will see blade runner though, so i don't know if we can expect much before tues. i don't think Pan's is going to come though.

Mystik, if you don’t get your Blu-rays, I’ll send you one of only 10 or so made Blu-ray black bomber jackets with an embroidered Blu-ray insignia on the front for those awful cold nights in South Beach.
Hey you get me that bomber jacket and I promise everyone here a Blu-Ray photoshoot when we celebrate WB becoming one of us exclusively. If I can get my hands on Toshiba player it will be extra nice, just don't expect the player back. lol

Things are definitely about to get very interesting. Especially with that drop in line about Alan Bell from Paramount. I thought Universal would be the first to go neutral before Paramount came back (neutral or exclusive).

Penton, we're hearing a lot about Warner, Paramount and Universal in this mix...but it still begs the question. Where in the world is Weinstein?!

No, you misunderstood completely.
I meant what I said when “these things take time” so, buy Blu-ray discs this holiday season esp. WB titles if you see something interesting. I mean it. We have a chance, an excellent chance to end this damn war once and for all, so speak with your pocketbooks.

The Vaughn musing was just a reaction to his previous visits here where he was on an active campaign in promoting the theory that if other studios came onboard Blu-ray exclusively in the immediate future----- there would be a doomsday scenario regarding BD50 replication.

A theory which he promoted here and on the AVS forum, again, and again and again…….something strange for a *reporter*, *journalist* or *movie reviewer* to do.

And as far as timing for announcements goes, I also previously stated that I would not comment on such as that is the prerogative of WB and WB alone. In fact, I don’t think it would be wise to anticipate any exact date for this to occur, let it play itself out. Some people in some organizations also think the 5th quarter numbers (Jan.) are an important consideration as that's when people buy discs for their new Blu-ray players that they received as gifts for Christmas. There are many variables at work here.

Again, you are misunderstanding me.
After the Paramount pay-off was made public, Mr. Bell went on the road using the BD50 replication thing as one of the primary reasons for their decision..........rather than the acceptance of cold hard cash.

I am not trying to imply anything new with my Vaughn musing.

The only thing I truly revealed tonight is how the administrator of AVS can find the reason for alot of the edge enhancement on Uni titles, if he so chooses to call that person. (see the past bone to AVS)

Alan got a two-fer there and doesn't even know it with Deluxe and EFILM under the same umbrella --for no matter where the EE has been applied during the production chain of many titles.

Ah, okay. You got me almost falling off the edge of the seat here.

Let me go buy some WB Blu-rays then.

enjoy

That's silly.
I've only heard the 5th quarter mentioned publicly by studio heads like Chapek or Kornblau, etc.

Only if you wear black thigh highs and stiletto heels with the jacket.
PM photos to me first, to see if they pass censorship rules, of course.
