Disney, quite frankly, rules at this point. Their support for the format at the moment seems to be topping even that of Sony!

And just for that, I'm sneaking out and buying Deja Vu (which I wasn't going to get).

I dream of a day when Sony and Apple merge.. to form Snapple perhaps. Imagine the lust-inducing hardware that company could produce. Perhaps Jobsy, with his holding in Disney, can make this happen during one of the BDA meetings.. ahh bliss.

A positive side effect of that might be the end of MS-monopoly dollars as OS X use increases. It would be a gift that would keep on giving.

Absolutely. Makes enormous sense. Imagine what Steve and his boys could do with packaging and branding all that engineering and mfg ability. I've speculated on this for several years now. And Steve knows how to play the game.

Sounds good, only one problem OFFICE. As soon as OSX would be
out for every computer m$ would pull ms office from OSX. .

ahem. You know, this thread was created for insiders discussions and discussions with insiders. Lately if an insider hasn't posted people tend to keep posting and talking etc, wth the resuls there may be 1 insider post with several pages of people talking among themselves (Which is what the rest of the forum is for ) while the insider info becomes harder and harder to find or "fish out' . There are like several hundred topics were you can talk and discuss all matter among yourselves while you wait when the insiders are busy with their personal and professional lives to answer.

Just want you to keep that in mind when posting and remember that in case your posts are moved elsewhere that may be why

Moving on

Hi Paidgeek,

According to an update on the SPHE site, they now list Tekkon Kinkreet for a 9/25/2007 release on DVD. This Japanese anime film is getting its release on Blu-ray/DVD in Japan on 6/27. Naturally, with shorter windows being used for BD announcements there isn't any mention of this title on the Blu-ray side (yet?). Is there anything you can say about this film in general or what sort of possibilities there are when it comes to foreign films coming to the US on BD when a BD is done overseas first? Which master would be used? Would it just take what was done in Japan and throw some subtitles on it and localized menus? Or would it be reauthored from scratch?

Hey paidgeek,
So what's the reason behind the Best Buy Spider-man 3 BD freebie anyway? Apart from drumming up anticipation for the movie, is SPHE trying to get the PS3 crowd to see how good HD movies are?

It really came out of nowhere also.

And what is up with the mistake of leaving off trailer 2 and doing trailer 1 twice?

Question

Hi Paidgeek,

Thanks for being a part of this forum. My first question for you.

Does the Spiderman Preview disc make extensive, little, or no use of BD-Java?

Reason I'm asking is I encountered some glitchy misbehavior in my Sony player after first trying to play it. I'm not blaming the disc at all, just wondering if it does use BD-J at all.

I finally got it to play and the preview content is wonderful. I'm sold on the movie and the eventual Blu-ray version of it.

My model player is on the latest firmware from Sony, but they are planning another revision that is supposed to fully enable BD-J compatibility.

Thanks.

Chris,

We don't have a preset procedure for setting release timing. What I can tell you is that I just viewed the master for this title and I was impressed. It is 2D animation as I am sure you know, but I thought the color and graphic detail of this title was exceptional. I think you will see it on Blu-ray later this year.

So much for secrets....

This disc is part of a special promotion with Best Buy. It contains some HD trailers and sneek peaks.

This disc does not use any Java menus.

Paidgeek,
Any solid info on whether the PS3 will be fully upgradable for IME?
I will probably not use this much..if at all..but the hd dvd zealots are having a field day with this topic at other sites.

I thought this promo disc was supposed to be given to people who purchase a Blu-ray disc so why is Best Buy just handing them out to anyone. I mean even people without BD Players are taking one just cause it's free, what's the point then?

Question for Paid_Geek. I know that the release of a number of movies on blu-ray is being held up so that better security can be included on the discs. And I have no problem with that. Does this security holdup also DELAY OTHER WORK needed for transferring the video and audio of a movie to Blu-ray? I guess I'm hoping that when the necessary security work is completed we'll have a large flow of Blu-ray movies to choose from relatively QUICKLY. Is that wishful thinking?
