Anyway, back to insider questions: Bill Hunt's rumor mill said last week that "The Rock" and "Con Air" might be in line for October, and had previously mentioned "Cars" in September. Any follow-up on these titles?
These titles have already been released in France, by Disney... (and are Region Free) so there's a good chance they'll be released here too (you can import them from www.fnac.com or amazon.fr)

No problem, it seems like everyone here is one happy family and there is very little need for active censorship (like some other places ).

Perhaps only a little helpful proding sometimes by the mods here who may feel sometimes like the Maytag repair man.

What with all the great news recently such as……. with the purchase of a Blu-ray player (between July 1st and September 30th) one gets 5 free Blu-ray movies or the news of primary Blu-ray backer Sony announcing that it had signed Dale Earnhardt, Jr. as a company spokesman …….I have gotten a bunch of PM’s asking if either were the "little newsworthy stuff" supposed to come out this week ? ? ?

Alas, no.
The "little newsworthy" stuff I was referring to has yet to become public knowledge. HD DVD lurker fanbois can relax , it is on a more humble note than either of the above Blockbusters, or the Blockbuster from last week.

Does anyone get the feeling that Penton Man might be luring some of the HD-DVD lurkers into a false sense of security?

Okay, it's Thursday afternoon and the information isn't out yet. The suspense is killing me (okay not really, but I would like to know what it is), so are we going to find out about it today as per the "probably Thursday" post?

Yes yes, I know...I'm impatient, but what can you do?

Geez,
And I thought this was the noteworthy news for all our female Blu-ray supporters around the world.
http://www.reuters.com/news/video?vi...lso_on_reuters

Nothing out over the airwaves yet about anything ?
(I've been like a mole in a hole all day looking at dat moving picture footage)

Well, I did say "probably" Thursday which was my best guesstimate (from last week)-- as the timing of these things aren't written in stone and things tend to get delayed a tad due to it being summer and all.

Just be patient, something will be forthcoming.
Don't get your hopes up too high as to its significance.

I'm almost a little dismayed that I even brought it to anyone's attention, as I didn't know that so many would be following this so closely (someone mentioned to me that the current active users on the forum at one point was hovering around the 300 mark ).

Gotta run to beat the traffic.

Could Costco be it?
People are reporting that Costco is pulling HD-DVD players and displays from floor.

But the point is: nobody is calling it a big announcement.

Some people do have a tad-bit of a problem on this forum over reacting to these types of releases.

In regards to the "little newsworthy stuff" that I guesstimated would come out "probably Thursday" all I can figure is that some people had to get their sh*t together for this……
http://www.entertainmentsupplychain....index_50.shtml

which delayed the whole darn process and with the Fourth coming up next week, I don’t know what will happen.

Have a good weekend folks.

Well not necessary for the panelists, at least.

Despite different studios having different agendas related to slightly different business models don’t be fooled by the occasional rhetoric coming from marketing people commenting on some particular event.

Perhaps to the consternation of some out-of-state software companies , the major Hollywood studios have many common bonds…….. for example, digital cinema for theatrical presentation.

Alot of the major personnel have been in the studio business for a long time and if you check out their prior employment history, it is not uncommon to notice that they have worked for multiple studios in the past.

This long term intertwined experience leads to a mutual respect and a higher ethical standard among studio executives than you might see with outside businesses vying for a foothold in Hollywood…..and its amenities.

For example, I doubt you will ever see paidgeek speak detrimentally about WB, Uni, Foxy or Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, etc., or even entities outside studio business, proper.

On the other hand, it is not uncommon to see software company spokesmen daily bashing the policies, products and tactics of anyone under the horizon…..whether it be overt or insidious. Heck, this can range from picture studios to consumer electronics companies, makes no diff to them.

Come on Penton, just spill the beans already

You don't have to name names but can you at least say if this is a retailer going bd exclusive? The anticipation's driving us (perhaps just me) crazy.

It’s just mostly Targeted stuff made "official" and coming from the horse’s mouth that I had already posted (specifics, even) but, was deleted on another forum ……..luckily only after many here had read it…..via a link.

I think paidgeek posted much the same one or two days later, so if you missed it, just read some of his recent old postings on this forum.

I see that one of our other insider’s here ….Richard J. Casey, has two threads running simultaneously in the AVS forum.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...=868185&page=1

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=868186

At least up until now, the disparity in the predominant *theme* of each thread is quite interesting, not to mention the fact that I didn’t realize that HD DVD supporters were so interested in audio…….and so willing to offer enlightenment to an audio neophyte like Richard.
