Whatever happened to the expected Target announcement? Seems that would have helped...

Indeed !
I don’t know where that stands now.
I was a vocal proponent for a high-profile Press Release and made my opinion known.

It may end up just being implemented quietly ala *guerilla warfare* style. It will happen (if in fact, it hasn’t already begun in some locations – I don’t get out much ).

Part of the problem is that there are still alot of people on vacation this time of year

There is another high def optical disc format?

I moved out some of the A-man banter into the appropriate thread in the Off Topic area, to keep this thread on track.

That "one person" has constantly been on about the PS/3 usage. Perhaps the sales pop + 5 free discs as BD usage enticement will aid in that respect?

Bottom line: Right now there is a big 5-disc promotion that not only fails to promote Universal, it encourages people to ignore future Universal offerings. Although I think maybe Universal's actual recent HD releases may be doing more harm in that respect.

Have you heard about any forthcoming Chinese announcements as a result of the BDA seminar and booth presence at SinoCES?

I use both. Now, here's a question that hasn't been asked before.

So far for the big studios, either SPHE or Panasonic encoding lab are handling the encoding for BDs. Who does the encoding for BDs outside of these two outside of the US? Say for example the Internal Affairs disc? We already know about Technicolor from R&B Films thread, which was very pwning to MS.

I'm not saying call China and ask, "hey what's up?". Merely wondering if you'd heard anything within the BD camp about anything being announced publicly at some point...

No, I won't spill any beans, I'll just quietly work in the background enabling as many Chinese BD player manufacturers as possible...

OK, no beans spilled. But, on the other hand, clearly there are quite a few bags to spill.

Addressing Paidgeek:

Sony Pictures has the rights to some good movies like Das Boot, Dr. Strangelove, Taxi Driver, As Good As It Gets and Groundhog Day. Have you seen any of the masters of those movies? If you have, do you think that they have the quality to make the high def leap or do you need to do some major work on any of the masters? Please let us know what you think of each master that you have seen...

Thank you for your time
