To Paid Geek(or anyone else that has input):

I searched this thread and could not find where anyone had asked this so I apologize in advance if it has-

Ive seen rumors from both sides about Walmart having a Target similar deal.

I cant really see this happening for HDDVD or BD, but there is an article floating around about Sony supplying cheaper HDTV's to Walmart.

Are there any legs to this or is it just FUD from both sides?

Correction,

I verified that only one edit exists for this title. There is a new documentary that was developed by Coppola's group, but not an extended version..

Sony Pictures and Sony Electronics talk with Wal-Mart constantly, but I don't know of any deals in the works.

The plan is to have a full featured version of SM1 and SM2 sometime in the future. There just was not time or resources to make a definitive version of all three titles right now.

SM3 will be available individually, SM1 and SM2 will only be available in the box set.

I used some software to analyze the PIDs on Fifth Element and the TrueHD track was almost as big as the PCM track (over 4Mbps). This was true on Ghost Rider as well except it was even higher since it was 20-bit.

Here is what I came up with for Fifth Element:

The Total Mux Rate is 39.94Mbps (file size divided by runtime). We can use software to determine the exact video bitrate which is 27.88Mbps. We have 4608Kbps for PCM, 640Kbps for French audio and lets say 256Kbps for the 8 subtitle tracks. And then 1.5 - 2 Mbps of general overhead. That leaves about 4.5Mbps for the TrueHD track. And as I mentioned I scanned the PID and that is mostly accurate.

Code:
27.880 video
 4.608 PCM audio
  .640 AC3 French audio
  .256 8 subtitle tracks
 2.000 general overhead
 4.556 ??TrueHD??
-----------------------------
39.940 Total mux rate
Any idea whats going on here? Do the TrueHD tracks have some type of padding?

Sorry for the long and nerdy post but any insight you have is appreciated. Thanks.

I agree that the D THD number seems wrong. I'll see what I can find out...

The Mits seems best suited for 1080p when the PS3 is set to RGB Full; all other resolutions look extremely dark, however. The opposite is true when the PS3 is set to RGB Limited; all other resolutions look fine, but 1080p looks washed out. Ordinarily, a player will upconvert SD BD extras to 1080p and deinterlace 1080i BD content to 1080p, so the issue of different colorspaces with this TV never comes up. However, the PS3 does not do any of these things, outputting any BD content in its native resolution only. (Yes, the PS3 now upscales SD DVDs, but that does not extend to SD content on BDs). The end result is that I constantly have to switch colorspaces on the fly, depending on the native resolution of the BD video I'm watching. Not ideal, since I have a "set it and forget it" kind of mentality.

Since a "forced 24Hz" option has just been added to the PS3 due to compatability issues with existing equipment, can similar "forced RGB Full," "forced RGB Limited" or "forced 1080p output" settings be a possibility? Is there anyone at Sony you can point me to so I can take this further? I know this is a known issue with other Mits owners, so any solution to this problem would be appreciated by many people. Thanks.

Can you point me to a thread where others are having these issues? I can take it up with Sony Computer, but I am pessimistic about getting another
"forced" option to solve this.

Here's a few to start with:

I have come across others here and there, but exactly where escapes me. I also would be happy to take pictures of the problems, if necessary. Thanks for your time.

Thanks. Cannot wait til October 30th!!!
SM1 will have 24bit Dolby THD, but the original audio source was 16bit.

SM2 will have 24bit Dolby THD from a 24bit master

SM3 will have 24bit Dolby THD and 16bit LPCM.

paidgeek,

Will there be extras with SM1 and SM2 or just the films?

Thanks.

How about region coding? Will all three movies be coded All Region? (Would be nice to buy the US version if Sony sweden doesn't release the boxset)

Keep up the good work!
Each title will have it's own case set in a box that holds all three. I don't have the details about the region coding yet. I'm looking into it.

Additional info: SM3 will be coded region A for North America, region ABC everywhere else.

paidgeek, (puts a US$50 in the coffer)

Why is Spidey-3 priced at US$49.95 and the box set at US$98.95? From the reaction of people in this forum, both are overpriced.

I theorized that SPHE wants people to get the box set more than Spidey-3.

Would SPHE consider an MSRP reduction prior to the release date?

Thanks paidgeek as always.

Geek

October looks like it is going to be an insane month as far as blu-ray is concerned. The Anchor Bay titles really played a huge part in it, and im glad you guys were able to get that done. Should we expect Gangbuster type months for Nov/Dec with titles not previously announced yet?

Also, ive been hearing that Ratatouille WILL NOT be day/date, and that would be a HUGE travesty if true. Any comments?

Thanks for the info, much appreciated! I'll have to put my faith in Sony Sweden then

Wow, that set is going to sound AWESOME.

Is SM3 from a 24-bit master too?

I honestly didn't know what the MSRP was on the SM releases until I started seeing it showing up in posts as I am not involved in pricing discussions. I have no idea how the pricing was arrived at, but I can tell you it is has been the most complex set of titles we have prepared to date. SM3 is a two disc set with added value on a second disc because it would not fit on a single BD50.
