Also, ive been hearing that Ratatouille WILL NOT be day/date, and that would be a HUGE travesty if true. Any comments?
I don't know anything about Ratatouille.

November slows down, but December is another huge month.

Be sure to get "A Few Good Men" in September. It is a reference title for picture quality and it's a great movie in any case.

I notice Target.com now carries the Sony BD player but no longer shows HDDVD players for sale.

I know Sony was going to have the only standalone in the store, but Target always had HDDVD players on their website. Has something changed in favor of BD in this deal with Target or am I looking too far into the fact there are not any Toshiba's on Targets website.

Thanks

Do you know if the Spider-man trilogy in the Europe will be region free also will the video bitrate and audio be the same. And will it have the same features other than the LPCM been missing on Spider-man 3.

PaidGeek, Penton-Man,

I'm curious with the BD releases as well. As we all have noticed, there's a joint efforts from BDA companies in promoting blu-ray, for example, Disney & Panasonic roadshow starting mid-Aug in the malls across USA.

Now my question is does the joint effort also occur in scheduling movies releases, i.e in order to keep the momentum of BDA and to avoid any direct competition Sony & Disney work out the releases schedule together. Looking at the schedule, Sony is heavy in the month of October, whereas Disney is heavy in the late Nov- early Dec.

Does it work that way, or am I just imagining something, cuz that's what the schedule looks like?

Also, where is FOX? what have they been doing? They need to pick up their end of the bargain, not even the slightest marketing campaign from them.

Paidgeek, any chance we'll get a BD edition of Dr. Strangelove to coincide with Warner's Kubrick push this Fall?

I understand that Disney, Fox, and Sony marketing are the people who run http://www.hollywoodinhidef.com

Of course I'd like to see some titles from FOX as I'm sure we all would.

You know, I hadn't figured I'd replace that particular movie in HD, but your comments on the master recently, and now this comment have me seriously considering it. It IS a great movie.

Yes it will be region free in Europe.

I don't know what you mean about the video and audio bit rates being the same, as compared with the US version? I think the answer is yes for the video.

SM2 will not have the same features as SM3. It will have a very good example of seemless branching.

We do not collaborate on release schedules, but we do pay attention to what the other guys are doing.

As has been mentioned in the past, Fox is concerned about the security of their titles and this seems to impacting their release schedule. I don't know when the flood gates will open...

How does the "new" footage integrate from an HD video quality standpoint with the original cut of the film? Will it be noticable?

Maybe so.

Someone suggested they were gearing up for the Gen3 Toshiba's. Problem with that theory is:

Why stop selling A2's now when Oct 1st is a long time away(if in fact thats when they are coming)?

Im happy, whatever link you choose you get a Sony product , for now.

What's SPHE's opinion on the content security issue, and has it been a problem for Sony BD titles?

[quote]I notice Target.com now carries the Sony BD player but no longer shows HDDVD players for sale.

The only HD players they had listed on their site a few weeks ago were HD-A1 demo models they were dumping.

Paidgeek says that they do not collaborate on release schedules, and that's true, however I would wager that the different marketing departments, at least for now are making sure no one is stepping on the others' toes on the big titles until HD is finished off.

This is what is so cool about the use of the feature. Unless we call your attention to it (we are thinking about something for CE3K), you won't know where the alternate version edits are.

We don't like fact that encryption keys are being exposed, but we don't think there is much revenue being lost because of it. We will watch the BD+ releases very closely and my use it on our titles in the future.

As far as I read Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest UK Blu-ray video in code is different because they added two DTS-HD Master Lossless tracks with the LPCM one. With the extra TrueHD on the european disc instead of the LPCM I was hoping the video in code was the same.

What I meant is does SM2 in Europe have the same seemless branching as the American one none of the European specs say one way or another.
