Sports agents don't make anywhere near 20% on player contracts. 4-5% is the industry standard for baseball, and it's certainly possible as a superstar Harper is paying less than that.

I love Harper as a player, but I agree.. I don't see him allowing Phillies to win that many more games to make it worth it.

As has been an annual tradition, Bonilla will receive $1.19 million from the Mets on July 1 as part of a deferred payment from his contract with the team.
Rather than pay Bonilla $5.9 million for the 2000 season, New York decided to negotiate an annual payout that started in 2000 and doesn’t conclude until 2036.

Not sure what the Mets were thinking with that one.

It's all explained quite well in an ESPN video on YouTube. Short term, they saved money which allowed them to sign Mike Hampton, a key figure in their world series run.

The main reason though was that Bernie Madoff was not caught yet. High projected returns on investment meant that long term they'd still make more money in the end. Sadly we all know what happened that Madoff was a fraud.

The silver lining in all that was that compensation for losing Hampton to Colorado was gaining David Wright.

I'd love to see Trout stay in LA, but I don't think it happens. He wants to win and right now, the Angels aren't built to win. They will have stretches in which they are good, but it will not be enough to make the playoffs. Not with the Red Sox, Yankees, Indians, Astros, A's, Rays, and Twins all looking good to very very good.

It hurts that Ohtani had the setback. It hurts that Pujols continues to drain the team. It hurts that Heaney is the "Ace" of the staff.

Bryce would be nuts not to try to convince Trout to go back home and team up for what would be a pretty epic lineup.

If Arte can't sign Trout by the end of the year, Arte and Trout/his agents need to sit down and be brutally honest with each other. If a deal isn't signed I say that he should trade the best player in the game so that the Angels aren't left with nothing if Trout leaves.

I don't see the Angels winning more than 85 games (and that is being generous).

Oh, and we can't forget about a possible lockout on the horizon - that could change everything for everyone.

Last year the Angels won 80 games and they were hurt the entire year. A healthy Angels team can win 90 games.

By 2020 the Angels will be just as good if not better then the Phillies. We have a lot of big prospects coming up. A Trout, Ohtani , Adell combo sounds better then a Trout, Harper, Hoskins combo honestly. Harper is so overrated.
