I have no idea why he didn't make it

I just hope Andruw Jones can get 22 more homers before he retires, or noone signs him. I got a crazy good deal on a game used auto jersey of his and with 5 all star games 10 gold gloves and 400 homers I think that should put him over the top (and no steroid allegations)

Don't be fooled, the Cards are not small market. They sellout every game, get huge TV/Radio audiences and sell quite a bit of merchandise. They are upper mid-market at the very least. As for overpaying maybe some but Pujols has said that as long as the Cards FO is committed to winning he will stay even if he could get more money elsewhere. Again don't be fooled he is gonna get 20+ mil a year. That 100/mil payroll was more then likely to save up some cash for the Pujols signing, I can see them going up in range not to far off. Pujols sells out games himself, ownership is not gonna let him get away.

That said now NL teams have to deal with Holliday if they walk El Hombre. Pujols gets more pitches to hit=Even better numbers. He has been swinging at balls the last 2 years.

There is no chance Andruw Jones ever makes the Hall of Fame barring a huge resurgence late in his career. His poor play the last couple years guarantees he's no Hall of Famer even if he were to get 400 home runs. There are no actual steroid allegations, but his drop in power once the league started testing for steroids is going to make a lot of people assume Jones was on steroids.

I read that and don't really have a problem with it except the season is already too long. I bet the Player's Association would have a problem with it too, because after 162 games and 3 rounds of playoffs the World Series champions are not going to want to play more baseball, especially if it meant going to Japan. I don't know where the games would be played or how many games there would be but I don't think American interest would be high. By the end of the World Series most people are tired of baseball and are concentrating on the NFL and college football.

Having watched Jones his entire career, it is amazing how fast he fell off a cliff. His waistline kept expanding while his bat speed was going. I doubt he makes the HOF either, unless he somehow became a decent OF again and put up two or three solid more seasons.

Not sure if anyone saw this yesterday, but Tony LaRussa said yesterday that if the Cardinals are in the playoff race he'd consider adding hitting coach Mark McGwire to the 40 man roster. I was wondering if McGwire would have to sign a player contract or as a coach is he eligible to play? I know that back in the day managers were eligible to play but am unsure if that's still the case. Apparently if Mac played he'd have to wait another 5 years to be on the Hall of Fame ballot, but his previous 4 attempts at the Hall of Fame would still count towards the 15 tries a player gets at the Hall of Fame.
