Nationals activated RHP Stephen Strasburg from the 60-day disabled list.
Unfortunately, it's only a procedural move. The right-handed phenom underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in early September and will miss all of the 2011 season. The 22-year-old went 5-3 with a 2.91 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 92/17 K/BB ratio over 68 innings this past season. He should be good to go by Opening Day 2012.

Who exactly is Adrian fearing in the AL East? He's thanking the stars he doesn't have to face the NL West this year as that division has some of the best pitching in the majors. Yeah and we'll see how well he does now that he actually has protection around him and is not playing in a pitchers park. A-Gon is going to rape Fenway.

I have a childhood friend who was drafted by their organization, *and a family friend who is in management with the organization gets my florida family the best seats in spring training so I pull for them when my losers bow out. But always head to head I go with the Os first

Haha, you say this like they're a bunch of scrubs. Give Hall some credit:

Bill Hall - 13 HR, 67 RBI in 116 games
Carl Crawford - 19 HR, 90 RBI in 154 games

Crawford was 40 points higher in his OBP and, of course, scored a lot more runs. But when it comes to swinging a stick, Hall > Crawford.

And yet they were 2nd in runs scored in 2010... and 22nd in team ERA. They were probably better off going after Lee than Crawford.

Maybe the Yanks should sign Hall then.

Hall batted less than .250, and his OPS was nearly a full point lower than Crawfords. NTM, that Crawford is a better defender and base runner.

Darnell McDonald and Daniel Nava both had WAR's of .4, basically the league average.

Red Sox LF last season:

.230/.303/.396/.698 18HR, 77RBI, 71RS, and 5SB.

Crawford last season:

.307/.356/.495/.851 19HR, 90RBI, 110RS, and 47SB.

They're already paying a no.3 starter $15.75M for next season and a no.4 starter $15.25M, what would they need Lee for?

Do you think he could pitch out of the bullpen for $25M/year?

If the Yankees were guaranteeing him $170, then the most he's leaving on the table is more like $37 million.

His contract with the Phillies is actually worth at least $132.5 million, because of the buyout for the 6th year. It's worth $147 if he pitches 200 innings in 2015, or 400 between 2014 and 2015.

In any case, it's nice to see someone actually turn down money.
Normally the player's union sticks their nose into these situations and pushes the player to take the mountain of cash. They did that with Sabathia last year.

Guess Lee stuck to his guns and went where he felt was the best place for he and his family. Sounds weird... considering we're talking about Philadelphia.

Put his wife in the stands in Phily with her husband pitching for the opponent's team and she'd probably get much worse. That sort of thing isn't unique to NY. Though I'm sure it did leave some negative impression on the Lee's.

Of course the NL west has "some" of the best pitching in the majors, because every division has "some" of the best.

Adrian Gonzalez is unproven in the AL, so until he matches his NL stats in the AL, I'll wait to be in awe of him like some people are. And even if he does, no combination of Gonzalez, Youklis and Martinez is striking the same fear in me as the Manny/Ortiz 3/4 combo of the early/mid 2000s, where I often felt two intentional walks was the safest way to handle them.
