I can't believe Washington took Ogando out when he was pitching so well.

Over-management at its finest.

Over-management is getting out of hand in MLB. Texas has used 5 pitcher, yet only given up 3 runs in the game. Girardi is another coach who does that way too much.

Because of it in the 11th...Washington has a sucky situation. He's gone through all the good pitchers in his bullpen. Do you go with one of the shaky pitchers or leave Feliz in even longer? Both options suck.

Of course Detroit has the same problem.

Just a strange strange game.

*EDIT* I forgot about Adams for the Rangers, but how many days in a row can a pitcher reasonably pitch?

And Koji. But hopefully right now, that conundrum is dead as we've got Young on first and Beltre at the plate itching for a bomb. C'mon dammit!!! WIN already.

Wow! Nelly is an absolute beast. His second HR of the game is the first postseason walk-off Grand Slam in the history of baseball. That's like 130 years yeah? Eff yes!

Technically yes, in reality no. As I Braves fan I can assure you Robin Ventura hit a walk-off grand slam against us in the 1999 NLCS. It just didn't get recorded as such because he only made it to first base before the Mets mobbed him. It only counted as a single I believe, even though it was a grand slam.

That was the first thing I thought of after he hit the homerun. No mob this time. Nice helmet bowling though at home plate.

Sheesh, the Cards are romping Milwaukee in Game 2. It's 11-2 in the 7th and Pujols is 5-5 with a HR and 5 RBI's.

Milwaukee fans were pretty dumb to leave early considering it could be the last home game of the year for them (2-3-2 format).

I miss Terry Francona already. I especially liked when he took a quasi-shot at ESPN in his statement, "Let's see ESPN do that." Followed quickly by a Joe Buck, "You're not supposed to say that." I guess Tito didn't ever much care for those jerks at ESPN.

I still think the Red Sox will regret not doing more to keep Francona and Epstein in place. If Epstein engineers a championship team in Chicago after doing it in Boston he'll be a baseball god.

I'm all for the Cubs hiring Epstein as long as the compensation to the Red Sox isn't too high. Over the weekend there was talk about Starlin Castro being part of the deal and I'd completely oppose that, but now it sounds like it will just be prospects and cash. I wouldn't mind if the Cubs hired Francona as well. I don't have a problem with Quade but just don't see him ever being a great manager. Hopefully Cubs fans don't expect the club to get good right away though because it's going to take a couple years for their terrible contracts to expire.

A long article, but one that highlights why there needed to be a significant change in the Baseball operations of the team. I imagine many of the players involved will also see there way out of Boston, shortly.

WEEI is reporting that the Cubs and Theo Epstein have agreed on a five-year deal worth more than $15 million. The Cubs and Red Sox must still agree on compensation but the deal is expected to be finalized by the end of the week.

I heard about it on the Jim Rome Show today. After this story I can see why Francona is gone. Apparently Red Sox players were drinking, pigging out on fast food and playing video games in the clubhouse during games while the team was slumping badly. All sorts of things that should not be happening.

Quote:
With their team in peril and their manager losing his authority, three Red Sox pitchers last month were uniquely positioned to prevent the greatest September collapse in major league history. All the Sox needed was Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, and John Lackey to apply the skills and commitment that previously made them World Series champions.

Instead, Boston’s three elite starters went soft, their pitching as anemic as their work ethic. The indifference of Beckett, Lester, and Lackey in a time of crisis can be seen in what team sources say became their habit of drinking beer, eating fast-food fried chicken, and playing video games in the clubhouse during games while their teammates tried to salvage a once-promising season.

Ya i heard that this morning, if that's the case, then yes Francona deserved to be fired, who obviously lost control of his players....

Yeah, but keep in mind that the Boston Globe has an ownership stake in the Red Sox through their parent company, The New York Times.

Now that I read more of the story it's also mentioned that Francona may have had a painkiller addiction.
