The Blue Jays and pitcher R.A. Dickey have agreed to a 2-year, $25 million extension. The trade of Dickey to the Blue Jays will become official as long as Dickey passes his physical.

What's the deal here? Toronto has been near the bottom of the league in payroll for ages and their attendance sucks. Did they get new owners or something?

No, they simply think they have a shot at winning the division now. The Yankees are aging and Boston looks horrible.

The Angels have traded first baseman/designated hitter Kendrys Morales to the Mariners for pitcher Jason Vargas. The move will clear the way for outfielder Mark Trumbo to become the team's primary DH, as they didn't really have a spot for him after they signed Josh Hamilton.

This is a terrible deal, $52 Million for a guy who went 10-11 with a 4.03 ERA in 31 starts,

The Cubs were desperate for pitching but $13 million per year for a pitcher with a 70-71 career record and 4.40 ERA seems excessive. I would have preferred they had just gone with a cheaper, shorter-term option like Francisco Liriano.

And that was with a quality team/ rotation behind him

I don't get what Theo Epstein is doing anymore. He seemed to make all the right moves in his early years in Boston. But his later years there he made some really questionable moves, and that seems to be happening in Chicago too.
