Email I recieved from LG:

That is all great and dandy...

For REC 2020 NOT copy protected with HDCP 2.2....

The sad part here. REC 2020 doesn't "need" hdmi 2.0. 1.4 spec(which 1.4 to 2.0 is nothing but speed) is already fast enough. But, EDID.

BD player will go, "hey what are you?"

TV/AVR responds "hi, I'm 1.4, and I'm fast enough"

BD player, "I don't care, you aren't on the approved list".

TV/AVR with 2.0 responds...

BD player, "cool, fast enough, you are on my list, but the content you want won't allow me to send it cause you arent on its' approved list..."

I'm not here to troll, honest. I don't know if it's just me in that I'm sensitive to it, but LCD/LED TV's have a certain artificial motion that I find distracting. Have these 4K TV's improved on that (if that is something you also sense)? I've seen them in the store and they look glorious, but I'm more asking along the lines of when you get it home and watch your movies on it; not just some slow pans of beautiful landscapes and cities.

LCD, by its very nature, isn't as pleasing as emissive display tech(which, emissive, covers every other type of display).

No dancing around it. LCD is just inferior. There is nothing that can be done about it.

I think you are referring to the soap opera effect, it's also know as Motion interpolation. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_...p_opera_effect

they've made SIGNIFICANT improvements in the last few years. With the de-judder cranked to maximum on my LG UB9500 there's almost none at all, and any that there is isn't strong enough to be distracting.

My previous TV was a plasma, so I bit a bullet when I bought an LCD, but I've been pleasantly surprised.

CRT, plasma nor DLP needed any tricks.

well, those are all dead now, so I fail to see your point. LED is what we have to live with now, for better or worse.

OLED.

If that fails, then I'll never buy another panel. I'll buy projectors.

I haven't been paying much attention to the TV technologies as I intend to buy a projector next. I didn't know the issues were so severe, I had an LCD years ago, it was a Samsung, the viewing angles were terrible and it was only 1080i. I have had a Pioneer Kuro ever since it's a plasma the picture is great if ever I look at any one else TV I can't get over how bad they all look.

If I end up with another TV it will be an OLED unless something better comes along.

Even though it is inaccurate...

I liken OLED as a progression of plasma...

As both are pixel emissive technology.

But they have more in common than gasoline and diesel. The similarity there ends at...internal reciprocating...

For every room that currently houses some display?

If, over the upcoming years, and I emphasize the words ‘if’ and ‘years’, the LED LCD manufacturers precipitate a nits race (which, accept it or not, increased brightness will appeal to Joe and Jane consumer in the typical showroom)….akin to an arms race….

think, from nearly 5 years ago to the day...these four words - our government in California and a subsequent demise of OLED.

Joe and Jane are morons.

Case in point....

I responded to a Craigslist ad that said(basically...and short version)...

"We are selling a Panasonic plasma as we went to a larger TV. We want $300 for it and our new TV hung in its place"

After a few emails they knew what VESA was and confirmed both TV were the same mount. They knew the TV was 1080P, but since the manual covered several...they didn't remember exactly which one.

Anyway, I show up, gorgeous picture.

Take their new set out of the box, hang it and I almost cried...

Took down and brought home a 50ST30.

Put up a JVC EM55FTR....

You may be sensitive to how LCD generates a picture compared to plasma. I've owned several plasmas and several LCDs and I can tell you the LCD tech is as good as it's ever been with regards to motion handling (plus contrast, blacks, colour etc, and I don't need any "tricks" to get accurate motion from it). Is every aspect of it perfect? No, but then neither is plasma, no matter what the zealots would have us believe.

My Sony 55X9005B is the best TV I've ever had. Shame it's not geared up for WCG, HDR etc (to get back to the thread at hand ) but it still knocks me on my ass how lovely the PQ is. And plain old SDR Rec.709 4K material is jaw-droppingly stunning.
