Hah, I didn’t realize that HDD still has the Smackdown forum!
God love ‘em.
At least over there, you can tell who’s still red and who is blue, unlike other places where they hide behind pre-processing technical esoterics that they have no actual first-hand experience or knowledge of.

I’m getting ready right now (my day off) to haul water up da mountain to them before any tourists show up this weekend.

The ladies are doing just fine………thanks for asking.
Maya still rules the pack with everyone following her lead.
No summer mishaps that I’m aware of, such as rattlesnake bites, illness, etc.

And to long-term readers, I finally got a decent pic of one of Maya’s pups ……….

Previous jpeg pic is mislabeled, it should have read "Maya's pup".

This is a more current pic of the lady checking out her domain....

Its interesting to read that the studios see the new blockbusters as the money makers whereas they are not doing so well with the older movies. Maybe they need to rethink pricing on those movies.

No, it doesn't make me feel any better you are American. I wouldn't care if you were a blind three legged donkey with vertigo. I still can't figure out how you guessed the kid was Jeff Ward.
You probably would have guessed out in the vast ocean of people on the internet *someone* would know it, right? You did.

I received a pro PM in regards to the Blu-ray Miami Vice, which apparently is getting a lot of attention over the internet boards.

Well, firstly, I figure you either love or hate *the look*………there aint no in-between.
Secondly, it seems that there are a lot of weird science authorities (you know what board I’m referring to) that have progressed from being over-night experts on DNR and EE to now being experts on the Viper Filmstream camera system.
I would love them to tell me things like what the raw footage looks like from a Thomson Viper before it is color corrected because it has a definite biased hue pre-color correction, not to mention its other *peculiarities* .

And you can’t even trust *official* sites like imdb because sometimes their information is either incorrect or incomplete, as they failed (probably not their fault) to list the Sony HDW-F950 as one of the capture devices utilized for the Miami Vice shoot (when it was used)……………….

Yeah, well I’m convinced you didn’t get that tidbit over the internet, as I don’t believe it’s common knowledge.

You have some kind of first-hand knowledge, being/have been either intimately involved in the off-road racing scene or are something like a relative, former next-door neighbor, etc. to Jeff W.

I don’t believe the…….. “I took a wild guess” bit.
Anyway, accept the Blu-rays with my sincere good wishes, you earned it.

Next time I’m going to limit my contests to people actually living in the U.S. so my administrative assistant doesn’t have to spend her time filling out those customs slips and I don’t have to pay for out-of-country postage!

Canada could be in the US. We'd have to put them inside Wyoming or Montana so those meet the population qualification. I'm pretty sure most of the Canadians here would like it for just the price reduction in A/V gear and media. That alone would pay for two family medical plans.

In regards to giving credit where credit is due, I think I remember who the photographer was that captured that pic which Ben posted previously……………

His name was Larry Wilett and he worked for “Cycle” magazine.

From the IFA conferrence:
http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=68697

Frank Simonis, on behalf of the BDA said that due to the delayed launch of the PS3 and the number of languages in Europe (15 he says), "Things must be worked out on an individual country basis, putting Europe on a 1 year lag".

Aren't there also people who speak multiple languages living in the USA?

If things must be worked out on an individual country basis, would it be possible for the UK to have a separate release from the rest of Europe and to just put the English language on the UK release (or at least a lot less language audio tracks/subtitles than they have currently so that we can have our releases no later than the USA (assuming it's not still on theatrical release in the UK)? If there are people in the UK who speak Norwegian or Turkish etc they could still buy the many language full European version that comes out a year later.

Also on the language thing in European releases, in the above link to the IFA conference, some people (in questions 2 & 3) asked for more non-English language high def audio on European releases of English language films I think, Warner said they "understand and will improve the situation", and Disney said "mathematics and bandwidth play a part but promise more support will come". If we're still going to have only 1 release for the whole of Europe with multiple foreign language tracks and many subtitle language tracks, won't increasing the bandwidth of the multiple foreign language tracks or making them lossless affect the quality of the video or affect how many bonus features we can have? Please could Warner & Disney or other studios reconsider and instead please could they only put the main (not dubbed) language track in the best quality (so that the picture quality and bonus features aren't negatively affected)?

They had the same problem with the PS3 download store, SCE UK want their own schedule which would be similar to the US schedule, but SCEE are blocking their efforts to bring store content to the UK before it is localised for the rest of Europe.
well lets hope they see sense and stick us in region A, because alot of us already buy titles from that region already

Its the IFA video. i dont really see where the negative spin is coming from, looks like some reporter needed to get a story going.
the warner lady says first they are really happy with BD sales and title after title sales get better. but goes on how they plan to tap the PS3 market and to get stores to be more upfront with blu etc.

what wound this causes i have no idea

Like Stringer saying the PS/3 could not earn back its deficit from hardware sales alone, and everyone running with it as an admission the PS/3 can never break even?

Many reporters are dense or have an agenda.

I received a PM with respect to the comment I made above (i.e. the last sentence), regarding transmitting high-resolution dailies to different on-set and completely off-set locations and “what is the most secure method these days?”

I believe that in regards to security and the shuttling of large amounts of uncompressed data all over, the answer would be Sohonet.....http://www.sohonet.co.uk/

They've built their own proprietary fiber optic networks connecting different cities around the world which can handle BIG volumes of uncompressed date over networks that are not Internet-based and they design systems for each film production almost on a case-by-case basis.

For Quantum of Solace, they designed the system to handle the 60 - 70 Terabytes of uncompressed 4K and HD data captured with those Dalsa cams and other HD cams.
For Speed Racer, they made an on-set network which allowed timed editorial rough cuts the same day material was shot.
