I am sorry to interject on the discussion gentlemen, but there is something that I would really like to discuss. For the first time I posted today @ AVS in the TDK pic comparison thread (been a member since Oct 2007), and this was my post, "I watched the movie last night at a friend’s house and the PQ is excellent. There was plenty of consistent detail, deep blacks, and vibrant colors in every frame. Maybe not 5/5 for PQ, but 4.75/5 for sure. Such a high quality BD release is sure to become a very popular holiday gift. Thanks for the thread Xylon." Well my post was deleted. I was not insulting, stayed on topic, and expressed my honest opinion about the PQ. A blatant case of censorship, and obviously my "name" is a handicap over there. Funny how Patrick99 is always posting here as if he was an "insider"..and then complains because just about everyone is tired of his winning, and repetitive posts. At least all of his posts are still here for anyone to see, and a REAL insider has addressed his "concerns". Later.

After peeking in, he saw potentially how time-consuming contributing to your own Insider’s Thread on this forum could be…….. and got cold feet!

You’re apparently not alone. Don’t feel badly.

I have more than one PM in my inbox from Blu-ray.com members complaining that they said something like “I like the look of The Dark Knight, and don’t understand what all the anxiety is about”, and their posts were deleted because they didn’t flow with the intended negativism against the Blu-ray movie.

Hi,

as somebody dug out a mid 2006 post by me commenting on the (then to me superior) HD-DVD-format I would like to say that since 2007 I consider Blu-Ray the better format overall, despite the fact that there is region coding on most new releases which is a problem for Europeans who import from the US and Japan.

So as I switched while both fomats still existed I am not really a disappointed fanboy As Blu-Ray has the capability however to achieve superior picture quality over HD-DVD, I would also like this potential to be realized as often as possible. Therefore I posted about one out of many new releases recently watched by me that imo has serious flaws.

Off the top of my head this year I enjoyed the picture quality of

Ironman
Indy IV
Hancock
Chronicles of Narnia 2
Wanted
Speedracer
Tropic Thunder
The Incredible Hulk
Kung Fu Panda
Wall-E

to name other new/blockbuster releases that I am perfectly fine with.

So I think to criticize 1 out of 11 Blu-Rays should be OK. Overall I am very happy with the quality of new releases as imo these are of consistently high quality. That is except for, unfortunately, the biggest BR release of the year.

I agree that some of the criticism of TDK with regard to its quality relative to all releases, old and new, is a bit too extreme. But I think that is because so many of us WANTED this one to be very good and indeed all recent blockbuster releases from the other studios are, at least for me.

What I do criticize more often are releases of older large format movies that did not perform as could be expected if given the proper treatment, among them btw. Spartacus, Mutiny on the Bounty, Patton and Battle of the Bulge, two of them by the way are HD-DVD-exclusive releases, only one is BR-exclusive.

Sorry Penton-Man for that long post as this is not my thread. As you brought up my name I just wanted to post my side of things. Apart from that I enjoy reading this insider section, regular reader, not poster

Oliver

Is their argument that it constitutes "threadcrapping" to post positive comments on a thread that was started to air negative comments? If so, I hope they would be as ready to delete negative comments from a thread started to air positive comments.

Ewww, the waft of a really bad odor just went through.

NutsaboutPS3, the mob mentality seems to rule over there and anytime you go against that, you get mugged and flamed, lectured to, and your equipment and viewing geared is deemed unworthy of membership in their special club.

I just wish the general atmosphere of paranoia and illwill would subside.

Back in "the DVD days", one could debate pro and con about problems on specific releases and nobody accused him of trying to kill DVD, or of being a DVD apologist.

Does anybody here remember debates about...

- Misframing, incorrect black levels and missing lines on Reservoir Dogs (Artisan)
- Excessive edge enhancement on Tombstone (Disney)
- Out-of-sync audio on Moulin Rouge (Fox)
- English dub partially pasted onto Chinese audio on Drunken Master (Sony)
- Misframing on Back to the Future II (Universal)
- Lack of anamorphic enhancement on A Clockwork Orange (Warner)

...and on and on...

Debate always followed the same pattern. Some people were up in arms, others were mildly annoyed, and others did not care at all.

For the guys who care, those who don't are philistines. For the guys who don't care, those who do are obsessive anal-retentive nitpickers. Who is in the right? It is a matter of point of view.

I don't get it.

The original shipments of the separate DTS DVD release of Jurassic Park had anemic bass. Like many, I mailed off my copy to Universal Home Video for the "fixed" version.

Never did get around to replacing that mis-framed Back to the Future Part II disc. Hopefully Universal will get things right when they make the BTTF Blu-ray discs.

You might have had anemic bass...I had NO dts track at all. The language menu did not list a dts track, no dts track was there when looking at the disc through DVD software either. The box had the dts logo as did the disc.

I sent it back to Universal for a replacement, it finally arrived with dts.

Maybe this error was limited to the Canadian release, but I had to send it to Texas for replacement nevertheless.

We do seem to get 'em. Wasn't the release of The Incredible Hulk delayed because some brainiac used The Hulk discs initially?

There are probably more deleted posts than standing posts in that thread.

I'm a bit confused, does this meant that they ARE optimizing encodes for 720p or not becuase the way I am reading it, if the people doing the encodes are doing them as per Stacey Spears' and your acknowledgement, I can't see how management at TW could affect the encodes?

Regarding Warner, I've been watching a lot of their titles lately (out of coincidence) and some do look quite well. I'm impressed with the Dirty Harry series, Harry Potter, as well as The Matrix series. Of course, some are less impressive, but sometimes I think they get slammed a bit too much at times. I'm really looking forward to Dark Knight.

Well, you’ve got some catching-up to do then because there’s a lot of good stuff here, you’re a grain dude right?

B.T.W., good pick-up on Hancock, as it’s pretty much perfect.

I’m told there are none, other than the generic superficial stuff mentioned on Studio Daily or in some issue of ASC.

Enjoy your interview with ‘the Director’ while in Japan.

Regarding that ^,

They are not willing to engage in a public dispute on internet forums in regards to the PQ of The Dark Knight or the choices of the filmmakers.
