Broadway to dim lights for Richardson

NEW YORK, March 19 (UPI) -- The marquee lights of Broadway's theaters are to be dimmed for 1 minute as a tribute to actress Natasha Richardson, who died Wednesday in New York.

The British-born wife of actor Liam Neeson -- and the daughter of actress Vanessa Redgrave and late director-producer Tony Richardson -- was taken off of life support after suffering a serious head injury during a Canadian skiing accident Monday. She was 45.

Playbill.com said Broadway's lights will be dimmed in her honor at 8 p.m. Thursday.

"The Broadway community is shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our finest young actresses, Natasha Richardson," Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of The Broadway League, said in a statement to Playbill.com.

"Her theatrical lineage is legendary but her own singular talent shined memorably on any stage she appeared. On Broadway, her brilliant performances in 'Cabaret,' 'Anna Christie,' 'A Streetcar Named Desire' and 'Closer' demonstrated a pinnacle of excellence … both emotionally and intellectually … that electrified those fortunate enough to be sitting in the theater and experiencing her magic. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and audiences; we will miss her," St. Martin said.

For those that don’t understand the process, basically, there is not that much extra room in the skull for extra stuff like blood and/or swelling and a space occupying process can potentially result in catastrophic consequences.

Bottom line, for all you skiers, snowboarders and esp. bicyclists out there, please wear a properly fitting approved helmet, as the most innoucous appearing fall can result in a serious injury.

To answer your query about “so why would anybody want noise in a film”.
Generally for one of two reasons (which overlap)……. one being for aesthetic purposes like with Miami Vice (by Michael Mann) and the other being because of stochastic resonance and the human brain. Try also searching my past posts with the words “stochastic resonance” or else google it for further info.

I read an article yesterday regarding this and while a helmet does certainly help, it doesn't necessarily save someones life. People tend to take more risks when wearing helmet, but I completely agree with your point but would add one caveat. Wear a helmet and be safe....it doesn't make you invincible!

And if you ride a motorcycle, be sure to wear a full-face helmet, as approximately 70% of rider head impacts strike areas of the head that open-face helmets don't cover.

Always want to attend 70mm festivals like in Frankfurt or the new one in Copenhagen.
I was thinking about the one in Copenhagen this April, but they dont have LoA this time.
& I definitely need to see it in 70mm dont I

You should have caught the LoA print they've shown in Frankfurt - it is excellent if I may say so If you want to get familiar with 70mm and watch lots of movies in a small period of time I can also recommend the festivals in Karlsruhe and Krnow (not that easy to get there).

Good to hear but, I haven’t viewed the actual Blu-ray yet.
I just saw a D5 master projected via a 2k digital projector in early ’06 and I’m relying on memory of that event.
The HD master (originating from a 4K scan of a new wet-gate IP) looked purty good from what I can remember and I think they’ve done a new (and better) master since then.

Great to see the first caps of South Pacific.

While I withhold further judgement until I get my disc of South Pacific I have to say that the caps of The Robe both on AVS and DVDBeaver are a revelation ! With regard to the amount of detail that can be seen in most shots this is certainly the surprise of the year for me
