I was really hoping your recent comment was referring to "stepping outside" of your thread into the MOVIES section of this forum (of which, I myself only visit from time to time when I'm COMPLETELY bored due to many of the posts made there), and not this.

Your thread, along with the Robert Harris and The Digital Bits threads, are one of the true "havens" for serious (and sometimes not so serious) discussions of "film"... and occasionally TV.

Very disappointing turn of events... though I guess it will cut down my posting dramatically...

Penton-Man, the silent majority greatly enjoy your insight and humor. Illegitimi non carborundum.

I agree Alan!
Penton I rarely post on this site and I don't think I have ever posted something in your forum here but don't let it get you down, Idiots are are gonna act like Idiots. Your posts are informative, interesting and hilariously funny at times. I don't think this forum would be the same without you.

I hope you can be persuaded to remain. Getting REAL insider knowledge has been quite a treat on this board. Unfortunately, there are too many know-it-alls (who know nothing - I hope I'm not one of them).

If you choose not to remain, perhaps you could have a weekly column of some sort.

Even if you choose to leave altogether, I wish to thank you for your many contributions to my movie/video knowledge.

is it standard procedure to do home video encodes from lossy tape for all markets? i'm guessing HDCAM-SR's compression is negligible compared to blu-ray but that seems a bit odd...

Penton-Man, I merely 'lurk' in your thread, as nine times out of ten, your insight flies completely over my head, thus leaving me devoid of any practicable input to offer. That notwithstanding, I enjoy reading your stuff, and if you do take a sabbatical, you surely will be missed.

I sure understand this, it gives me much pain also. You provide a great source of information and sites to look at if you have more interest than you could provide here. Funny in reading these pro sites folks still have all the manners in the world which is a whole lot more than you can say about all these unhappy folks today that are just rude! What I don't understand about the usual ones is they keep harping over and over like that is going to get something done, all this does is put me off to this hobby, most likely all the insiders too. No matter what you end up doing thanks for your time here and let them all go to hell! Thanks.

That's for distribution, not mastering or duplication.

I don't blame Penton for getting frustrated with a lot of the ignorance that's been happening lately. As Blu-ray gets more mainstream, unfortunately it's to be expected.

At least I hope he posts here in his thread. It would be a sad day to see another insider chased off.

agree, even though I read many sections, the insider section and the hot deals section are the real reason I still come here.

Penton,

Please don't forget that there's a whole battalion of (mostly) silent readers here that respect the hell out of you, and all the insiders here at Blu-ray.com. Due to some recent topical subjects, the forum has had a surge of new and dormant members shooting off with no regard for the site. I believe this is a proverbial case of bad apples; once the drama of their cause subsides, they will too.

I have really enjoyed your thread, and have learned more than I ever wanted to know from your knowledge. Thank you doesn’t seem enough compensation for all the time you have volunteered to Blu-ray.com. You will leave a huge void in this site if it is farewell; I hope your discouragement wanes in time.

QFT.

I come here to bask in the wisdom. I know I don't have the knowledge and experience to contribute but I've learned who experts really are. Please know that the original Blu-Band of Brothers still lives on; still supports and most of all still appreciates the contributions of the professionals. If there are doubts, check my blu-ray collection.

No matter what your choice sir, you have my sincere appreciation for your contribution to the success of Blu-ray. This site and your forum had everything to do with me being Blu-ray from the day Sony shipped the S1.

Cheers to you, Bill, Max, kjack, paid, blu-ray.com staff, and all the rest.

Oh sure my man, leave us old warriors here all by ourselves.

What happened? You got your Sophie Marceau in HD on Sept 1, and now you're quitting on us?

See ya back round here soon ol' buddy. Wouldn't be the same without ya!

Hoo, boy. I haven't chimed in here in quite some time for lack of anything interesting to add, but for what it's worth you should know you've still got a silent but supportive majority of lurkers in this thread Penton-Man.

I don't blame you for being frustrated, but I for one always find what you have to say interesting (and often amusingly cryptic).

Perhaps the moderation team here should clamp down a bit harder on offenders here, as it does seem some of the more recent arrivals don't really understand how rare and special it is to have direct access to industry insiders.

It's probably not realistic to expect the same level of camaraderie and esprit de corps from the rank and file posters. Even so, as someone who's been around here a long time, I have to say I'm very glad you've spent as much time with us here as you already have (and certainly hope you continue to do so in the future).

I find that I always learn just a little more that I didn't know every time I come back to this thread, about films, filmmakers, or other less Blu-ray related things when the topic meanders a bit.

It can be pretty aggravating when lots of "newbies" fire off posts riddled with presumptuous conclusions and glaring inaccuracies.

Additionally, many "newbies" fill up threads all over this forum with questions that could easily be answered with just a little bit of search effort. Anyone is going to get tired of repeating answers to the same questions over and over again pretty quickly.
