The appearance is almost the exact opposite of Speed Racer in which the foreground as well as the backgrounds are in perfect focus (also not natural but stylistic).
Hell yeah! I love all of Manns films and the styles he (and the talented people he works with) create. I cant wait for Collateral either, many will moan about the Grain. I can hear it now "but Fincher used the same Camera in Zodiac, and there was no grain!" (Even though im not a grain lover myself )

Penton and Max, let Dreamworks know that there are at least two people who would buy Collateral on bluray!!

I've heard this one was cleaned up by Lowery. I wonder how much of the issue lies with that?

Lowry has 2 settings at very different price points

The quick and dirty scrub , or the loving happy-go-lucky hot stone massage of a frame by frame clean.

And evidently this is one massage where there's no "happy ending" gauranteed.

If so, then I'll inquire, but it wasn't very well received so they might wait until another Jamie Foxx or Tom Cruise movie makes it onto Blu-ray or into theaters.
Thanks! Perhaps another Michael Mann flick would also be a good time.

Max or Penton,

Bill seems to be busy, so Ill ask you.

Is there anything going on with the Star Wars franchise? Im not limiting this question to bluray.

I remember it being mentioned that Lucas is going to continue to tinker with the films for future releases. The most recent thing I remember reading is that Yoda in Phantom Menace is going to be completely replaced by a CGI.

In short, is there anything in regard to the Star Wars films (not the series, I could careless) going on that might be of interest?

That's been done for over a year now. They basically rotoscoped Frank's performance and he approved the final product.

There's just the 3-D releases that keep getting pushed back (my guess is that there's tons of the movie that look flat and terrible). I honestly would not be shocked if Lucas were to go back and CG every spaceship effect in SW/ESB/ROTJ just so they look good in 3D. Whether or not he can get away with spending that money is the real question though.

As far as the theatrical versions, well, that's a very very long story as to why those were LD rehashes. Suffice to say, just getting those out required several armored divisions and a fuel-air bomb

If you notice in the DVD SE's Han shoots exactly 3 frames after Greedo instead of a full second. That was the concession he was willing to make

I don't get Lucas' obsession with all things digital. The LD versions were pretty good, sure they looked pretty bad as they had no restoration, but I watch those everytime over the digital crap.
I think it's more that he has never been able to put on screen what's in his head, and it frustrates the hell out of him

Im actually a fan of the special editions I recently tried to watch the originals and they seemed like they were unfinished. Aside from Han shooting first and that musical number for Return of the Jedi. Im ok with the changes.

Nevertheless, he seems to be of the opinion that these are ONLY his films. Yes, he created them, but WE were the ones that made him that fortune and I think you should always cater to the fans.

Also, I was EXTREMELY disappointed that he only put out non-anamorphic versions of the originals.

That was bullshit.

Man, imagine getting the unaltered original versions in 1080p with DTS-MA? I really could care less about the special editions and the Prequels.

I've always been confused by the obsession with digital...
If Lucas wanted to protect his legacy, he would replace that horrible rasta man voice he used on the Jar Jar Binx character.

I'm all for that... but considering Lucas love for all things digital why not just remove him completely and shoot a new character against a blu screen and insert....

say a wookie or somthing.

I'm sure Penton is passed commenting on this thread within a thread so I'll get my .00002 cents in. Jar Jar shouldn't have existed; the movies didn't need to be targeted to kids. I was a kid when Star Wars, a.k.a. A New Hope released. It was breakthrough without the fluff. I don't have any issue with digital. If anything, someone should have learned that you can't correct shiitty directing, story, character dynamics, or acting during post production. Something got lost in the desire to legacy.

Edit: If Episode VI could be in digital and we could find a way to replace the ewoks with something other than carebears with spears, I'd be for that.

I hope when Star Wars is released on BD that I - III get forgotten and IV - VI get released as original. If I'm forced to, I'll buy all six on BD. Please don't make me.
