For the action scenes, yes. But having to endure dialog shots and close-ups with a shaky hand-cam just didn't do it for me.

I agree emphatically! There is a certain feel about Connery in Dr. No. It captures the rawness of the 1960s to a T.

(Haven't seen "the new guy" yet.)

If you’re asking if I’m going to call Fox again, the answer is no!
I suggest you watch The Sand Pebbles (in the same pack) if you require perspective to their practices.

Well, if they could only get him a duplicate copy of the same car then you might just be impressed with the newest Bond……………..

Why do I have an affinity for Lake Garda in Italy?
It has been the traditional ending of the toughest mountain bike race in the world for years which starts out in the Bavarian region of Germany. Plus, they’ve got a great local red wine that works wonders for a tired and sore body (after a week in the saddle) while sipping and contemplating the past journey.

Yes, both The Longest Day and The Sand Pebbles are well
done. Thank you FOX.

Funny thing you can always find reviews and critics
in one dubious form or another. I don't know why people still go
to AVS, when we've got the best right here.

Kris,
I’m trying to respond to your post from several days ago………with some follow-up, at least in a piecemeal fashion.
In regards to the quoted portion above, a rough rule of thumb would be that just about all HD masters produced prior to 5 years out, should/will have to be *redone*, or else the Blu-ray home media edition will reveal past unforeseen deficiencies.
In fact, a lot of the stuff that was HD mastered as recently as 3 years ago will have to be redone.

There are no *standards* in the industry (and I wouldn’t hold my breath for any) but, in general, many of the studios (or the post houses they contract) are employing better and better common *good* practices as the tech people from different studios have more discussions amongst themselves……….during formal as well as informal meetings.

As an aside, last month Disney recently started 4K scanning all their titles from the 1930’s -1950’s which by extension will eventually result in new universal HD masters that can be used for both home media video (Blu-ray) as well as broadcast television.

P.S.
Where’s Deci ?

I am in the process of writing a review. Definitely no DNR here and it has that gritty look that I can see some loving and some hating. It wasn't as detailed as I would expect from a newer film but it wasn't bad.

My copy hasn't showed yet, but I've seen some clips

It looks like it did theatrically, gritty

But……….but, what about that conspiracy theory repeatedly touted ad nausea over some regions of the internet that this studio is purposely catering to the hoards of uneducated Joe6Packers that love a silky smooth video look in keeping with some popular HD television programs?

What happened ?
Did somebody (at Fox) forget to “turn the DNR knob up to eleven” on Jumper ?
For cripes sakes, Jumper has as much or more of a sales potential than does Patton.

Well, I don't think that anyone thought it was necessarily policy, but certainly an effort on old catalog titleswith fairly mainstream appeal to see what happened

While I believe it was certainly mandated by someone, it was more of an experiment rather than a trend (and that gentle reminders are needed not to make it one)

Penton can you enlighten me on why disney is going the route of TruHD? I Always expected PCM from them. I know there all Lossless, but PCM was the only thing we had that was Raw data, untouched, i think its the most compleat sound thats all.
