Well, I told you that it wasn't Godfather

I didn't say he hadn't ALREADY FINISHED Godfather did I?

Paramount..well more like Viacom had declared the existing masters "good enough", and didn't want to spend the money to save the crumbling negatives (not all of which could be saved anyway) and to create a true reference archival version

Spielberg stepped in and made them see differently

It’s called *bleeding edge info*.
Guys, that's our clue. Jaws did seem to fit that bill, though others have said it ain't jaws. Anything else that's "Bleeding Edge" that we can think of???

I think you're overanalyzing Penton-Man's post. There's a number of films that he could be referring to, but the one I would hazard a guess on wouldn't make that "cut"... at least not in that fashion.

Assuming I'm reading the tea leaves correctly, no, it's not Jaws (besides, I don't think Steven Spielberg would let one of his OWN films deteriorate like that when he's gone to such great lengths to preserve other great films).

Hmm, sometimes even newer films need restoration. How's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon doing? Didn't that need some work?

The Adventures of Robin Hood - Errol Flynn

I would buy this the second it came out on blu-ray if it does.

Digital Bits has it in it's "rumor" section. It and Lawrence of Arabia as well as North by Northwest are probably 3 of my favorite 10 movies of all time.

I could be a happy man with all three in my hands within the next year or so.

Penton refered to "color stuff" in his original post, seemingly excluding Psycho:

I suspect that Robert Harris will be called in for the color stuff, at least

Hey Penton-Man, I just had an idea and wanted to ask what you think. On another thread, the point came up that having extras on a BD disc might reduce the PQ and AQ of the main feature because of the space the extras take up. Would this be a good use for Profile 2.0? In other words, the extras could be accessed via the internet, while leaving the BD to have all the space for the best possible PQ and AQ. What do you think?

Believe me Wicky, it’s the places that don’t have a menu that you must be wary of.
Read the reviews for Totoraku.

See post above, great place for barbecue beef.
Actually, I enjoy linking Sushi Roku in particular because I love to hear Louise Vertigo sing La Femme Fin…….. and I don’t know where the hell to buy her CD in the U.S.

There really is no animosity.
Within a couple weeks of the time Toshiba waved the white surrender flag, tech guys from Paramount were meeting with tech guys from one of the stalwart true Blu studios catching back up to speed on how best to get product out on Blu-ray.
I think that hobbyists became much more emotionally involved in the format war than the typical industry folk……exception being one “retired” person.

No hidden meaning with “bleeding edge” news, it’s just a generic term that I use.

Example of “bleeding edge” news……………

Example of “cutting edge” news (i.e. don’t expect MIB prior to June)…………..

Example of “official news”………….

Hey DaViD,
I noticed that Dan wrote a very good article on the post format war FUD.
Kudos to him.

At this time it is not an issue.
Should it ever become one in the future, I’m sure it would be looked at before slipping into the “good enough” PQ or AQ mentality.

Guys, for the next week I’ll be supper busy trying to get things accomplished before heading on over to the Digital Cinema Summit starting April 12 with other NAB stuff to follow, so I’ll only poke my head in here occasionally.

Speaking of conferences and such, this is a heads-up for our optical data storage Grad student ………
http://spie.org/optical-data-storage.xml

Be there or be square. Nice venue too.
Yes, I think there is yet another generation of packaged media that will become available before digital downloads ever become a viable competitive option for consumers……esp. if retailers have any say in the matter. Meanwhile, enjoy Blu-ray in all its glory.
