He was one of the initial investors of the format, so yeah, he definitely prefers DTS audio. Notice that there is only 1 Sony title with DTS HD MA, and that happens to be Spielberg's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". Jurassic Park was the first title to use DTS audio.

At the very least, it should provide a pleasurable conversational aside the next time he meets with Ron Meyer and Jeff Zucker.

It is a rather amazing coincidence that Uni decides to reveal its future audio plans almost day and date with Dreamworks’ ability to be free to shop itself around in regards to formal negotiations.

I don't normally ask but as we're talking about Robert Rodriguez....is he ever gonna get round to Sin City 2? Can't Dimension sell the rights to a studio who have the money to do it? Or is there more to it?

Thanks

Come on people, put in that pre-order now. (You don't want to sit there like Rob with "Passage to India", reading one glowing review after the other and not having the movie in your hands already, dammit! )
Have you seen a screener ?

Not sure it this is relevant information but your question reminded me of a preview for another Frank Miller movie coming in 09 called "The Spirit" that looks a lot like Sin City. They showed this preview before Iron Man yesterday. I did a quick check on IMBD and they listed Sin City 2 and 3 coming in 09 and 10. Further, they list 3 releasing before 2 (must be a typo). Reference: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0588340/

Yeah i've seen the dates on IMDB, RR keeps saying he'll do different things though. I think Machete and Barberella will be out before them. (If he's even still doing Barberella?!?!)

That would explain the fubar dates. Do you think the delay in the release of Sin City 2 and or 3 is what's holding up the release of Sin City on BD? It would be awesome if Miramax would release that special version they did on SD DVD to Blu-ray. That was quite a package.

I know "The Spirit" is not Rodriquez but did you get a change to see the preview? This looks like another Miller winner.

I haven't heard about them being out, but Patton was a reference DVD, and this Blu I believe is sourced from a 4K scan of the 65mm negative. If memory serves 3-4 years ago they struck some new 70mm prints and showed them in LA....

Well, wicky your memory is pretty damn good.
I’ll probably never forget it because the first public screening of one of the 70mm prints from the restoration done jointly by Fox and the Academy Film Archive was shown in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater about 6 weeks after 9/11.

The print was pristine.

Patiently waiting on Patton -- preordered it on the day it went up.

It's EXTREMELY encouraging to hear about its quality.

Penton let me tell you, I'd love to see Patton in 70mm, I keep trying to get the Senator in Baltimore to book it. Luckily they show Lawrence there every time it comes around,

If you have the power, I'm going to be in SoCal for Comic-Con, I assume How the West Was Won is going to get a Cinerama run for the new DVD (of course, ater I leave *cry*), and just have them shove Patton in the Goldwyn again for me

Those 2 and Ben Hur in full 70mm anamorphic pretty much complete my top 5 "wish I could see it in the theater" movies. The last one is "Yamato no Towa ni" (Be Forever Yamato), which like Galaxy Quest 20 years later has a huge reveal where the film goes from flat to scope.

This preview? I'm skeptical. It seems (even though there's no film footage) too much like Sin City. The colours, narration. hmmm we'll see....

I think (Penton will know for sure) Sin City is actually ready on BD, they just haven't dated it yet. It was being demoed at IFA in 2007 so it can't be long now. (I think it'll be out in the UK before the US though)

OK, PM, I got your PM.

Question for the group...

Have any of you had issues with PM's? I just got a popup 3 days after the PM was sent. Penton that is why I did not answer.

Do you normally stay on the front page or on the forum-side? If you're on the front page, the upper-right-corner of the page shows if you have a message but you don't get the pop-up telling you about it until you go to the forum-side. I have it configured to send e-mail as well though and it even includes the PM in the e-mail (a nice feature since a lot of forums just send a message saying you have a PM but don't include the actual PM).

owa...yes, I did go to the forum...in fact two of them. I also looked and saw I had 0 PM's. I was looking as I was expecting an answer from Penton.

Anyway, maybe it was a computer glitch.

That’s in San Diego right?
In July-ish ? ? ? ?
(The Lost people have been speaking about it recently).

Two definite things to do while you’re there.
1st –
From the Convention Center walk north up the sidewalk past the Marriott, thru Seaport Village, etc. and get your arse on the harbor cruise that takes you around San Diego Harbor.
(if you walked to “Anthony’s”, you went too far, turn around and go back about 200 yards).
It’s a pleasant cruise where you get to see a lot of things like the Navy ships currently docked in port, where the Seals train, babes sunning topless on sailboats, etc.

2nd –
Walk east several blocks from the Convention Center to the “Gaslamp Quarter” and have dinner at Croce’s Restaurant.
Ingrid (his wife) opened the place as a tribute to her late husband (Jim Croce ) and she is the owner/hostess. His son comes in occasionally to jam, who has made a name for himself, in his own right.
Everything on the menu is excellent.
Give ‘em some love and your dinero.

P.S.
If you go to Coronado to visit the “Del” or walk along the magnificent beach in the morning and see a dog running with/chasing a local Seal team………..that critter probably be mine, as we’ve got a summer place there…….and I like to keep some of dem boys in shape.
