While I've -been- to Placentia, and a very good friend of mine grew up there and went to Fullerton, I've never seen the film, alas...

I did, however, go to the Yorba Linda Nixon Museum, and spat on his grave. Also bought a T-Shirt of Nixon shaking hands with Elvis.

True story...

lol…hardly, as it is easy to recite that fine quote from For the Love of the Game, when one also knows off the top of one’s head things like the association Kevin Costner has with Cal State Fullerton and its baseball program………and even more esoteric things (but far more practical ), like how long it takes to walk with him from Cal State Fullerton’s baseball field to one of (if not the best) piazza joints in all of the O.C…………."Tony’s" in Placentia.

Now sharkshark, if you are familiar with the above motion picture, let’s see if you can tell me what type of pitch caused the reaction from “Tuttle” to invoke that quoted response from “Billy Chapel”………without getting into a God damn debate or negotiation with me.

Or, since you may not be familiar with dem baseball pitches and may be more into da tunes, tell me which scene from the movie was this song playing……….

Throw in an EB110 and they'd have a viewer. In general, though, I'm not big on the 4-wheel stuff.

I agree, but too much of this kind of data base would be dependent on input from theater employees or managers. Some of them are free to provide that information while others may be risking their jobs by doing so. I have booth photos from a few different theaters in my area that I simply won't post online out of the very real risk it could get certain people fired at those theaters.

Thanks for the recommendation, as I will keep it in mind.
Best Bruschetta I ever had?

Getting a complementary sample from one of the great Italian restaurants while walking along Columbus Ave. in North Beach (S.F.) in the vicinity of Saint Peter and Paul Church (where funeral services for Joe DiMaggio were held, as well as serving as a location for a couple of Clint Eastwood movies).

You are welcome. There is a family owned Italian place in old "Downtown Fullerton"....trying to remember the name...

They had a magical dish. Broiled chicken livers and browned butter over fettucini. Cholesteral heaven. The place didnt take credit cards , had only Italian waiters and had a very "authentic" (Sopranoesque clientele) atmosphere .

Hey, Penton,

I just saw the footnote you've amended onto your subtitle poll descriptor and I wonder: is there some reason that the issue you describe precludes the use of two entirely separate (and pre-positioned) subtitle tracks rather than one user-movable track? It doesn't seem like it should be a problem to me, in light of the multiple subtitle tracks in various languages already in use on most discs.

Speaking of which- hey, MGM/Fox, how 'bout some English subtitles not "for the hearing impaired" the next time you put Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo on Blu-ray?

However, if you'd rather answer my Das Boot and The Hurt Locker questions, instead, I'll understand.

Yeah, I believe it. Actually seen it on the west coast, myself. And had spectacular Italian food, too.

It's just... different out here, though.

I've watched a few Serie A games in west coast spots in which I was the only English speaker in the room (much to the eternal amusement of the staff and other clientele).

It would be great to have a fully accurate, comprehensive database of commercial theaters around the world featuring info on screen sizes, screen curvatures, seat counts, existence of balconies or not and genre of theater (mainstream, art house, revival, part time/live stage, etc.). Tech heads such as myself would want to know what kind of projection system, console and lenses were being used, the types of film/digital/3D formats supported, speaker systems, amplifiers, cinema processor, automation, servers, THX certification, etc. ...
And let us not forget the refreshments:

M&M/Mars commercial or Local vendor?
Popcorn?
Prepackaged or fresh-popped?
Margarine or Butter?
Cows Regular or Organic?
Jersy or Hereford?
Penned or Free-range?
Hay or Grass?
Perrenial ryegrass mix, Orchardgrass, or Timothy?
First cutting or Second cutting?
John Deere or Interna...

Uh... Did someone just leave?

Hey Penton-Man,

good luck to you guys for the talks regarding the home entertainment merger with Paramount, IF you are actually in talks.

Paramount imo does not really have a stellar record with regard to catalog and classic releases on Blu-Ray and if they are with Sony I would hope that the quality of releases will improve and maybe the quantity, too.

And there has been very little discussion in this thread about Transformers 2. As I consider to watch it in Imax I would like to ask if you have any knowledge as to how many minutes of it were shot in IMAX ?

When you say "yet another", it sounds like you think a lot/most (and not just some) of the people posting here are "sycophants". That's just not true IMO and even if it were it would be an unnecessary insult.

I'm sorry to answer for Penton, but I'm pretty sure the answer is "Zero".

http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/06/24/...e-dark-knight/

So, pendantic maybe, but they re-rendered some scenes for Imax CGI res, but nothing was "shot" with an Imax camera...

OK, so we agreed on "some" rather than "few" or "none"?

Yeah, you're right... K.

*****

I voted "yes", as one day I just might get a CIH setup, and it's certainly the least egregious solution in that case... That said, I'm firmly in the "being able to move them around" camp, it should be trivial to have that title be allowed to be adjusted vertically (let alone the call for vector text... I'll just take nicely aliased, HD-resolution raster text please rather than chunktastic subs)

So, it's a decent poll, but sorta like Colbert's usual question... "Is/was George W. Bush a great president, or the GREATEST president?" Hard to answer without, well, a caveat or two...

I’m not certain but, are you talking about this fine establishment ?

With this history…….

Seems to me, that a few years back, they may not have been taking plastic but, they do now (except for Discover). The eatery is actually just a few turns of the crank from one of the premier new bike shops in the O.C......."Bannning's".

It is technically possible to have up to 32 subtitle streams, but if we double them up, then of course we will only have 16 languages.

The additional problem is that there is a significant cost to preparing dual streams and this is difficult to justify. Hence the reason that other studios don't do it, to my knowledge.

Off the top of my head, I don’t know exactly how many minutes. I would have to ask. All I heard was that 2 action scenes were captured in IMAX……..probably already much to the chagrin of the ILM folks who had to do the rendering.

Meanwhile, give me a moment and I’ll find a link for you to an interview I’m aware of regarding the sound.
