The people on this forum are actually quite lucky because all along they have been experiencing an accurate accounting of the format war in real time. (Examples include news concerning Target endcaps, Stephen Nickerson moving on, etc.)
There has been little need to read places like Reuters, N.Y. Times, blogs of professional “analysts”, etc. – exception being The Digital Bits, of course.

They read us !

What year? The best I can get here in Austin is the 16 yr. I have a few of the 12yr cask strength ready for special occasions. I used to frequent the UK for work and I'm certain I'da been considered a smuggler with all of the bottles I moved.

Uh oh. Penton looks to be readying to put a couple of torpedoes into the S.S. Hd-Dud.

Of course they are all wearing blue shirts.

Hello Penton-Man,

Assuming Toshiba pulls the plug on HD DVD, why would they not announce support for Blu-ray? The reason I ask is because everything I read is suggesting that they will quit the HDM business altogether.

Thanks...

I really have to laugh when I think about how - on this very message board - we knew a lot better what was going on with Warner going into CES than freaking Toshiba themselves... Victory celebration my ass, excuse my French. I think the access to real time information on this board has been unprecedented and I can't believe you guys got away with it all. Good for us though, and THANKS!

I just hope all the insiders stay around to share information, answer questions and hear suggestions now that the war is over. It can only be for the better of the format & the product, as can be seen from the quality of SPHE's releases, which, IMO, has improved a great deal through paidgeek's accessibility on this forum (and AVS, when they were still relevant).

Thats not the best picture to chose - it showing the view a U-boat captain would recieve just before he gets rammed.

Okay, here's my "read into" this: Toshiba might just have grown a clue and realized that they'll be screwing over their last few friends if they drop HD DVD before Universal/Payamount are ready to jump ship. I'm guessing that Toshiba has basically made the decision, but won't officially "make a decision" until Universal and/or Payamount give them the go-ahead.

Speaking about tomorrow and reports of Warner being released from their contract to release movies until the end of May. If this is true will they still release DUD announced titles (especially I Am Legend) or will they be able to can those titles from release to the DUD crowd? Thanks Penton for all your help and support in what was this madness of format war. BTW enjoy your Powerlunch

But if Toshiba might wait for the end of the day and close of the JP markets, so we could have ~10 hour wait to hear

EDIT: From Digital Bits. Toshiba has a press conference scheduled at 5PM Tuesday Tokyo time. That 12AM PST tonight

why do that? i have a bottle of benrinnes. my current personal favorite. if you want to-kill-ya, i recently had a fantastic evening with don julio 1942. ill never be the same....

edit: i know benny is small, it'd kind of like finding that great boutique wine where no one knows about it but a few. im a huge fan but it hits the palate perfect so other may not have the same experience. given that i'm in the US, finding anything small is a big deal. i'm a scotch snob and really do like what i import (love having one of my best mates working in glasgow and edinburgh) that no one has a clue about
