Jeff, are you suggesting all notebook computers across the board lack the processing horsepower to play a Blu-ray movie properly? If that's the case, I disagree.

An entry level notebook with the minimal amount of RAM and integrated graphics may have some issues with Blu-ray playback. However, a well-equipped notebook with a current dual-core or quad core CPU, 4GB or more RAM and a real video card is not going to have a problem. Blu-ray playback is not the most compute-intensive task one can throw at a notebook.

That being said, if I were going to play a Blu-ray movie on a notebook computer I would do so with the notebook placed on a stable surface. Not my lap. And I would have it plugged into wall outlet power. I do that anyway when using professional graphics applications.

I'm not saying they can't, I'm saying that you shouldn't. Notebooks are simply not designed for continual heavy duty usage. It's also more heavy duty than you think, because many (not ALL) lack the proper chipsets to offload to the GPU.

The amount of money you have to pay to get decent performance, you can build 3 of an equivlanet desktop. So like I said, buy a good desktop, buy a netbook that'll run your digital copies and go home happy

I don't think it is carried in foreign films as it is a certification by the American Human society for domestically filmed Screen Actor Guild productions:

All domestically filmed Screen Actors Guild (SAG) productions are required to provide our Safety Representatives unlimited on-set access whenever animals are used. During pre-production, we review the script to determine the intensity of the planned animal action. Safety Representatives then monitor the animals during principal photography to ensure their safety and well-being. Why are some of Sony's new digital copies ONLY available for the PSP? I don't own a PSP and never will own a PSP. I do, however, own a laptop, which holds my digital copies. This is not a good idea, imo. I noticed this on Godzilla and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. I'm guessing there may be/will be others.

A Macbook Pro should be more than capable of handling Blu-ray and handling it well.

Course, I've always scoffed at netbooks since a decent smartphone can do their job and perform others while taking good care of other duties (point & shoot camera, multimedia player, etc).

Apple does own a lot of patents in AVC

Apple would have to redesign their boards to implement the secure pathways, but yes, there's no reason why Apple's hardware can't handle it. I hope that potential antitrust issues in the EU will finally just get them to license their DRM out and enjoy the massive income it'd bring from having every managed copy device paying them a few bucks for the privlege to rip to their format (but I know they'd rather get a check from the studios every time you push that button and maintain monopoly control over their tech). They're already mad enough that the EU will foil their non-removeable battery scam soon enough ($5 for the battery, and $60 in Apple's pocket to put it in for you, $50/$100 for the new laptop racket)

Netbook doesn't carrry huge bills attached it it, has much more storage and a useable keyboard. Smartphones also lack the accessories or a decent size screen. Even the best make extended browsing a pain that a netbook does in a snap.

The Warner titles without lossless were almost exclusively TV shows and direct-to-DVD/BD releases. All theatrical films, new and catalogue, have been getting lossless.

There are quite a few titles on the list from WB without "lossless" that were worth seeing, and quite a few of which that were NOT TV shows, or direct-to-BD releases.

I'd make a list, but I'm busy right now. However, check out the WB titles listed here:

The lawsuit with Nokia should be interesting, too.

But the unibody Macbook Pros and new iMacs already have end to end HDCP, don't they? I could see backward compatibility on older models, but for the new stuff, IIRC, they already have iTunes up to date with mentions of Blu-ray in the EULA and the hardware appears up to snuff... so all that's left is the will and desire for BTO options for the appropriate hardware....

Eh, Nokia has been doing AV-out cables through the 3.5mm jack for a few years now. As far as browsing, you obviously haven't browsed through an N900. It is identical to the desktop experience. I generally scorn netbooks, though. If my smartphone can't do something, that's what my Macbook Pro is for.
