aygie, I prefer not to analyze every sentence in the online article(s) about the subject as to their accuracy.

Bottom line, as I stated before, contrary to what’s indicated in the articles that have been linked, there is no such capacity increase coming (and I’m only concerned with Blu-ray software for movies, concerts and such), so I wouldn’t raise false spec hopes in that regard.

Instead of taking that steep road up like in the race, you can go past that and take a singletrack (forgot the name) up to the back side of Los Pinos (where the fire lookout is and Expert course goes to the top of) or go down into another valley. All kinds of possibilities open up out that way.

Never rode anything quite as epic as TransAlp or Leadville, but my wife and I did ride 1800 awesome miles from Seattle to SD once. Your post last week inspired me to get off my rear end and get out on the dirt for the first time in a while - thanks.

Good to hear…………and we certainly have had the weather for it with much of the remainder of the country enduring the cold, chilly stuff while we’re walking around on the weekends in flip flops wearing short sleeved shirts and sunglasses.

I think I may have eaten at Mananas after having ridden one of those Noble Canyon area loops (in fact, Jason T., a writer for Mountain Bike magazine at the time Zap was there too- recommended it also to me)……if that’s the eatery on the opposite side of Interstate 8 when you’re driving back to S.D. and it’s a relatively little place with a front facing due West. The food was great……or, maybe I’m thinking of another Mexican place. It’s kind of difficult for me to remember Alpine as it seems if you blink while driving at 70 m.p.h., the town is already in your rear view mirror.

The record companies have been killing the album concept for over a decade since they started focussing on acts they could produce into an image and a hit single. I think Itunes and online single unit downloading is simply a reaction to people being dissatisfied with all the half baked radio friendly CDs from the last 10 or more years.

If everyone else is able to operate in the same way as Apple, how is Apple operating a monopoly? If Apple had a monopoly, they would be using practices that their competitors can't use. They don't have a monopoly; they have very popular products and services- there's a difference.
True.

Enjoying 91% of the market is not the same as controlling 91%.

Ah, you're one of those who also think that the iPod was "just another mp3 player" and the iPhone "just another mobile phone", right? That explains a lot...

For those who don't know what that is

Notice how the only major names missing are Disney and Apple (And Disney has openly talked about how they're willing to merge their new system with the larger whole)

Give a discount? What kind of Apple-style product do you think I'm planning here? You get a generous 5% off on Black Friday and thank me for it Pre-ordering is simply a statement of faith, and you're lucky I don't charge you more to get it early/on time (Apple forbids stores to put their products on sale, except under very rare circumstances)

The biggest problem has been the creative people being ejected from the management and creative decision process, replaced by MBAs who've never been in the trenches deciding who to put out there. They also destroyed the singles market because people weren't buying the albums of their churned out pop. People got sick of being burned by albums with 1 or two good songs, and iTunes offered the solution to cherry pick.

That's why people like Penton are so important, because they know BOTH sides of the fence, and can make an informed decisions based not on what's hot now, but on the people they're promoting and how likely they are to break down, or be able to do a good second album, and all the other factors that make a good investment in an act. Unfortunately the young bucks are chasing out those kind of experienced people because they know better, and don't care about learning.

Sounds like we're talking about the same place. I remember reading that Zap had lunch with Gary Fisher there once.

Jeff, this isn't just a problem in the music business, but business in general. Too many people who theorize what the market is based upon what they've read in the latest business book (that's all the rage in their circle of friends), that has no basis in reality.

Agreed 100%...it's happening all around us, not just in entertainment.

That would make for an "interesting" lunch conversation... They are both, um... uh... a little different, but good guys.

Well, I was addressing a specific issue But yes.

First thing I did when I started doing the music thing was to ask questions and lsiten to the old guard. Now I have a lot of friends in the experienced sector, and I'm working with a retired Sony Music VP. They're the people who got where they were because they worked their butts off in the school of hard knocks. Because of that, I'm entering graduate school with only some good bruises and some very dirty hands A good friend got ejected from the upper management of a record label because of that kind of house cleaning because they were removing all of the people attached to someone else. Too bad, they lost a great asset.

On another topic, I can't wait to see what George F and his magic elves did with Zhivago. If he's this excited about it, it must be something REALLY special

Now if we could only do something to make the cover art nicer like the DVD was. Such as life

No problem, but i am shocked, the detail of the articles (and the sources) seemed very sure of it, thanks for the reply though Penton.

The real question is - how do we take over instead? It's time for a creative national coup of US business

I am absolutely stunned that Sony has decided to can Spider-man 4 and do a reboot of the series in 2012.

Really? Rebooting a $2.5 billion dollar franchise in less than 10 years? sheesh.
