and if the rumor indeed comes to fruition, then when the Blu-ray edition becomes available, I can just hear the ‘eye candy’ PQ tier enthusiasts scream SOFT …….being either ignorant or just plain dismissive of Classic Soft filters and nets used by the D.P.

Not to mention the extensive "bleaching" the image underwent.

I saw it on TNT-HD recently, looked a lot better than the DVD version.

Hopefully, no one from the studios pay attention to those PQ tier threads which IMO seem to promote excessive DNR and EE.

I soon found myself loving to play the sport in the somewhat harsh winter climate of the Northeast with the cold, mud, rain and sometimes snowy conditions. The tougher the weather……….the better!
Used to wrap thee ole feet in saran wrap to keep them dry.

The following summer my Dad took me to Yankee stadium to watch AC Milan play Inter in an exhibition match during which I was mesmerized with the European players great skill and virtually speechless on the way home just thinking about what I had just witnessed. I had the opportunity to meet Pele, later the same summer in Wash. D.C., who was a great inspiration to me.

I was hooked…..switched from playing American football on Junior Varsity in the fall to Soccer in the fall….captain of high school team, etc. I went on to play Varsity at the University which I think to this day, still holds the record for the most consecutive NCAA Championships in the sport.

I started watching the English Premier League once it became available on TV. I immediately was attracted to it because the conditions reminded me so much of my childhood days in high school……and the players run, more so I thought, than the play in other top leagues in Italy, Spain, etc. I became an Arsenal supporter because I liked that team more than any other which I saw play at the time, of the matches which were televised.

Here I am, 5 knee surgeries later (as the result of playing), with no regrets………yet.
Penton,

You're dating yourself. If you watched AC Milan versus Inter on June 29, 1969, that makes you in the neighborhood of 54 or 55 years old. That would place you at St. Louis University in 1973, the last year they won a NCAA championship. Quite a distinguished group of men who are on the half-century team who played that year:

Goal
Chuck Zorumski (1972-73)

Defense
Joe Clarke (1972-75)
Mark Demling (1970-73)
Bruce Hudson (1971-74)
Bob Matteson (1970-73)
Denny Werner (1970-73)

Offense
Dan Counce (1970-73)

Although Virginia holds the record for the most championships in a row (4 from 1991-1994). Were you a member of the championship team? If so, what an awesome experience!

I never got to see Pele in person, but I did a school report on him in the 3rd grade because he was such an amazing soccer player. He's the reason I started playing the game at a young age.

...well, we already knew he was a grizzled old coot that looks like Tommy Lee Jones, he admitted so a couple weeks ago (back when we were talking about the Sony exec that looks just like Jason Robards).

I say that with full and complete knowledge that he could still kick my soft, pathetic ass, whatever his age... That or sick his coterie of coyotes on me.

Meanwhile, if you're nerdy/googly enough, you find someone else claiming to be another "Penton-Man"... Some guy named Larry... Who knew that Penton was a brand of motorcycle?

ps. This is super obnoxious, I must admit, but the sardonic poeticism of "coterie of coyotes" pleases me. Sad, but true. I think I should make a T-shirt with that expression on it...

Hi Penton, well it looks as if the poll idea has pretty much died a death, given that only 30 odd people replied to the starter thread, there seems little point in collating them into a poll.

Feel free to pass on the link to anyone who may find it of interest. The usual suspect titles generally feature heavily.

I did "advertise" the poll on the HTF, but one of the owner's took umbrage at the fact the thread wasn't on their site and removed the link. Therefore to be fair, I won't be linking to the responses put on their site either!

Do you remember how the Warner polls were done some years ago ?

I remember that one year there was a poll and Ice Station Zebra came out on top, I remember that because I bought it when it eventually was released. Another movie btw that I would buy on Blu-Ray in an instant

I remember when Peter Staddon released Zardoz cause of one of these polls Pretty sure he knew how it would go, but he did it anyway. I miss him a lot at Fox, he really knew how to straddle enthusiasts and the mainstream, and use some of our crazier ideas like Tv boxsets to make a pile if money Peter's now running things over at Deluxe.

Yup can see this one coming a mile out. They will not understand that it was done to establish the correct mood for this apocalyptic story and to play homage to original visual telling of this story. What will also be overlooked is the fact that Janusz Kaminski was chosen for this very reason. If one looks at his body of work you can see where his style of shooting would fit this type of project.

But hey, who cares about director's intent, I want stuff to pop off the screen.

Regardless of its visual styling the disc will be popular with HT consumers because of the ridiculous LFE track on it. I remember testing my SVS PC Ultra 13 Sub when I first got it using WOTW. There was stuff falling off the walls and tables upstairs.

Shark, is this one directed at me and my preference for tube preamps in my 2 channel setup.

I do agree with you. Stats can be interpreted and spun to one's own benefit, or view point. The minefield called highend audio, is abound with it. But there has to be some form of empirical data to work with, not just subjective. The challenge is finding a balance between the two.

Jeff, I remember the days when Peter Staddon frequented HTF. Always got the impression that he loved this hobby, and did anything he could to advance it. His influence on the evolution of DVD production at FOX was easily seen. Classy, standup guy.

I’m a bit surprised because members here (including myself) have freely and repeatedly posted links in the past to threads on other forums (like HTF) in order to bring attention to certain topics/reviews (good or bad) that Blu-ray.com membership may be interested in contributing to, either here or there, esp. when the link represented the original source of information (or misinformation).

Also, I think they allowed Eternal Sunshine? or some other member to cross-post the subtitle placement poll over there. Perhaps the ownership desired to prevent further bleeding of lost membership?

Regardless, it’s a pity when forum fanboy-ism either by general membership or ownership overrules the sincere intent for doing something good for cinephiles who take home theater seriously.
If you have faith and confidence in the loyalty of your membership, you shouldn’t have to worry about having them read other forums (and come up with some spin control as to why they shouldn’t) after you’ve removed the link to ‘the outside world’. Sounds a bit like North Korean government mentality to me. Cinephiles may be living in different rooms of the same online house but, I think the doorways to each room should be left open for easy entry.

Someone should run a Google Trend Daily Unique Visitor chart and see if they’re hurting over there. Maybe that’s it.
