I read about it and it definitely seems like an acquired taste to me, but whatever brings people to enjoy classical music is fine I guess...

I'm really looking forward to seeing the full Metropolis, however, I feel like I missed the framerate discussion. Is there likely to be an attempt to play with duplicate frames to get it down to ~16 fps on a 24 fps output, or is it just going to play too fast like usual?

At the screening it indeed seemed that sometimes the movie was played back too fast but I doubt that this will lead to interpolated frames in order to make this run with a more natural speed but then you never know what happens next with Metropolis ![]() |

Is that something that BD-J could do - control the frame rate of video? Last edited by 4K2K; 02-17-2010 at 10:08 PM. |

Penton-Man,
Here's a link to an article by the director of Race Across The Sky that mentions how they captured it, the cameras, etc. He says he's a 3-time finisher of the race too. Hopefully the upcoming Blu-ray isn't priced too sky high. http://www.slapyblog.com/Home/Awesom...TRAIL-100.aspx |

Today, February 19, 2010, is the 20th birthday of Adobe Photoshop.
Professional graphic artists, photographers, illustrators and creative workers of other fields will often make different choices on the hardware and software used to get the job done. For instance, I remember all the Freehand versus Illustrator versus CorelDRAW debates. That wasn't the case with Photoshop. Look on any creative worker's computer system and you're bound to find Photoshop installed. After 20 years Photoshop still has no formidable rivals. Other image editing applications have either failed trying to beat Photoshop and disappeared (remember Live Picture?) or simply found a niche where they could survive. Even if you're using Painter, Paint Shop Pro, Corel PhotoPaint, The Gimp, etc. a casual observer may say, "can you Photoshop some more color into that?" Non-designers aren't familiar with the names of the various computer applications used to create digital graphics. But most people know of Adobe Photoshop. |

Also, 20 fps content could be encoded as 720p60 easily (or 1080/60i?). 20 fps encoded at 720p60 would repeat each frame 3 times. I thought the HDMI 1.3 spec allowed vendor specific resolutions and frame rates. So for rates not in the normal HDMI spec, if they were supported by the player and display should still work. EDIT: Ahah! Your link explains it. (for those who can't jump to the link, apparently a damaged but original cut of the original version of Metropolis was found a couple of years ago ). |

To be a bit more specific: The added footage is from a 16mm protection element that had been created from a 35mm nitrate print in the 70ies in Argentina.

Penton, I might as well ask before anyone else; does the Sony/Weinstein deal mean we're any more likely to see the extended version of Grindhouse on BD?
(and the Whole Bloody Affair version of Kill Bill, or do Disney "own" that??) |

Penton another Weinstein question, but not when is so and so coming out...Weinstein released two of the most disappointing and "could have been great" dvd's i've ever seen, namely the Bronston epic's Fall OT Roman Empire and El Cid. Does the deal include these titles?
Thanks for your time, hope your enjoying the snow! M |

This isn't giving Sony control over their catalog, or even a Fox/MGM relationship. This is a "keep your discs in our warehouse and ship them for you" style deal. While Sony may choose to get involved with a title for additional pie, this isn't a "give us your catalog and we'll distribute it like our own" thing.
