Well “spectacle” is a rather uncommon event in and of itself, whether it be in 2D or 3D, wouldn’t you say?
Sort of like the word “epic”.

Anyway, no love for Milla?

Hmm, interesting.

I see no screenshots included as illustrative aids in the last few Blu-ray movie reviews of WB films done by Ken Brown but, people tell me that *other* forums continue to allow reckless posting of WB Blu-ray screenshots by their reviewers (by proxy). Seems rather unfair to me.

Okay, WHV, you want to play that game?
Allow me a few moments to stir the pot like RAH did with Universal.

Hey, don’t tell me.
Tell RAH’s buds over at WB…

Well, while you're stirring the pot, Milla is smoking it.
She's looking a bit ragged lately.

Happens to a lot of stoner chicks. Kristen Stewart's another example.

Penton,

Do you feel that poorly done 2D-3D conversions hurt the future of 3D?

Anecdotal evidence from "Alice" and "Titans" says otherwise, but I think long-term it's luster is going to wear off IMHO.

I would, but it's the 3D porn that sold Avatar a few billion in tickets. Krusty doesn't put out his box of used up porn for the trashman for nothing

I don't think the people who ultimately make those decisions are reading Perhaps one of those bigwig to bigwig talks are in order The same exec can't tell the difference between the real thing and that anyway. I don't think he cares about anything other than that extra $5 anyway. Me, I'm looking forward to the nerdgasm spectacle that will be Tron Legacy, and more importantly the glowing frisbee toys that will accompany it.

As far as Mila, I wish she'd stop making movies, they're universallly awful (did they even finish Ultraviolet? It looked like Sound of Thunder where they finished it just enough to get away with releasing it). The best acting job she ever did (Leeloo was, let's face it, not a success based on nuances) was Parker Lewis's girlfriend (finally on DVD thanks to shout, kindly llicensed from Sony )
.
Oh to live in an age where people, male or female can't open a movie strictly based on looks. No more Channing Tatums or Megan Foxes, they'd stay in porn where they belong and keep their shitty acting to where it belongs, delivering
pizza and seducing the pool boy. (Mind you, I'm sure she's a very nice person in real life)

You're saying it doesn't belong in a Michael Bay or Stephen Sommers film?

I'm saying that no one should ever be in a movie based on the physical when they can't act, no matter what the movie. There are plenty of pretty people who can

First of all, ‘Alice’ is no ‘Clash’ and I think most theatrical reviewers have said as much. For instance, this reviewer didn’t even realize it was a 2D -> 3D conversion to begin with…
http://www.nybreakingnews.com/news/A...ew-1267903847/

But, to answer your primary question…most definitely YES!, in fact, it was the talk of the Digital Hollywood Spring Conference last week in Santa Monica
http://www.digitalhollywood.com/10DH...Sp-Tues12.html

-at least in regards to the topic of 3D. Keep in mind though, that all 2D -> 3D conversions will not be lousy. Just like all native 3D acquisition will not necessarily be superb, just because it was *shot in 3D*. It’s more complicated than that. It all depends on the quality of the work done by the professionals, be it stereoscopic acquisition or conversions, and for the later, the 2D content itself is obviously a factor to determine if the motion picture is even a proper candidate to begin with.

Re. ‘Clash’ - in the first place, the 2D to 3D conversion project timeline commissioned by the Burbank studio was outrageously ridiculous…namely 8 weeks, give or take a week.

Secondly, when one does a 2D to 3D conversion, you typically want the whole motion picture to be locked. One reason being that you want to review the whole graded 2D motion picture to form an idea as to how to establish technical keystones that will define the look and which will be propagated throughout the whole film. This was not done with ‘Clash’. Heck, I’m told that less than 1/3 of the shots were locked at the start of the conversion process. That’s not a challenge, that’s just craziness.

Hell, the Director didn’t even want this motion picture dimensionalized to begin with and I think he’s made public statements to that effect.

Yes, bad 2D -> 3D conversions will impede the public’s acceptance of 3D filmmaking…and for that matter, also will bad native 3D acquisition.

For instance, not to get overly technical and risk merrick leaving my thread altogether , all I’ll add is that 2D ->3D conversions with manual/semi-automated recovery look superior to 2D ->3D conversions with manual focal point depth and automatic depth recovery.

Given his talent I'm down with it, but male or female please keep the talentless eye candy off the screen. Thus is certainly the first project since 5th Element that might actually be good. Milla isn't talentless, but her career choices have been......poor

a young upstart wrestling organization redefined the genre in the mid 90s from a bingo hall in south Philly. Ted Turner and Vince McMahon subsequently stole the formula and talent cause Paul Heyman couldn't afford those rates and dye to that and the fact that creativity and business sense are often strangers eventually ran him out of business. The passion of the performers and the fans are unmatched. Check out Barry Blaustein's award winng documentary "Beyond the Mat", even as a non fan I think you'll find merit in it

And from what I have heard, Theater owners are already frustrated/fearful of handing out passes to movie goers that have to put out the extra bucks because their expectations are not met since Avatar and Alice have set a standard or raised the bar as it seems.

The bigger problem with 2D-3D, outside of the paper doll effect is that for peopel who get headaches from 3D, they are far more likely to get triggered by the fake stuff due to misalignments of the 2 eyes.
