See how much better sports are when they're scripted? You skip all the boring parts and get right to the interesting stuff

just watching Kimmel on the PVR, watched Lost live and it had a ridiculous number of commercials, just atrocious.
You didn't think they went 2.5 hours so they could fit more story in did you? With the extra 20 minutes added back in (which better have the baby and walt answers in it) I'm betting it doesn't crack 2 hours on Blu-ray.

The smoke monster target commercial was pretty good I must admit

Thank's for the head's up. I don't think I quite have the qualifications needed for that job. To this point my experience with Maya has been limited to tinkering around in the Personal Learning Edition. 3D modeling and animation can be a very time consuming and frustrating thing.

I just hope the DVR doesn’t die in the interim.
Penton,

I'd be curious for your take on the finale. I found it to be pretty darn good and made my wife cry on numerous occasions--I had a tear in my eye on a few as well. It doesn't answer all the questions but at least gives the show some closure.

Very, very interesting... Hadn't seen that test before.

For fun, I tried it late last night on my (very much uncalibrated) Laptop monitor... I got 40!!! (It should be noted I'm a graphic/web designer by trade )

I knew the calibration on the (Dell) was bad (ie., just the default), but the spectacular fail was pretty impressive.

Redoing it on my calibrated workstation I got a 4, but again I think that might actually be a condition of my monitor (it was in the third from top strip, and it was clear I was getting some "push" on some of the blue channels, meaning I got a pair out of order (fail of 4)). It's been some time since I ran a full calibration on this, so time for a recheck.

Fun little test - my eyes are fine, but my monitors are a mess!

ps. Here's the link: http://www.xrite.com/custom_page.aspx?PageID=77&Lang=en - required viewing for anybody making claims about PQ, I think!

ps. Curious, Bobby, you on a mac? Wonder if that notched up Gamma would also make the test easier or harder.

It aired, spoilers are no longer valid. I could never believe the people who got mad about LOTR, the books had been out for 60 years and they wanted people not to spoil them while they waited a year for the next one? If people are waiting till August that's their own issue

I still wonder how many of the *screenshot scientists* can make such boldly assertive critical determinations regarding the picture quality of Blu-ray movies.

Oh, that’s right……I remember, “the golden finger” –

Man, don't spoil it for me.
Off-hand, I don’t know when I’ll get around to watching it, esp. with the holiday weekend approaching.

Esp., if they show that player who seems to trip over a blade of grass and then looks for the nearest defender to get a yellow card as a result.

Your wish is my command, though.

Just took it again...my monitor is calibrated to D65, so I'm sure that helps a lot.

Shark, do you know James Quandt?

I was PM’ed a rebuttal post this a.m. to cook your goose.
If you find me a hot YouTube clip of Shakira dancing, I’ll post the link for your 'pleasure'.

I've met him a number of times, he programs (programmed?) Cinemateque here for years. Very, very knowledgeable about film, creepily so.

But, alas, I don't do Shakira links, even at your bidding. Besides, everyone's more impressed with this anthem:

When the hitherto private press screenings for the festival’s most important sidebar, Un Certain Regard, were merged a couple of years ago with the public screenings, critics’ dismayed over their lost privilege, justifiably.

So, looks like UCR allows -some- public. This, as per above, is new The main screenings, market, and all other events are, I assume, still locked out save for those in the industry/invited guests.

It's still a mess, clearly, even for the likes of a major programmer like Quandt. And he does mention in passing the silliness of the red carpet throngs.

At the screening of Crash, a good 1/4 of the audience left when there was a passionate scene between Spader and Koteas. Moments later, when the girls are getting it on at the back of a Lincoln, there was nary a movement.

By the end, the film had a wonderful mix of some giving a standing ovation, some booing outright. I got into a bit of a discussion in my broken French at the top of the stairs ("non, non, c'nest pas pornographique, c'est philosophique!").

It went on to win the Jury prize for "Daring and Audacity"

Still, mess aside, I'd certainly kill somebody to be able to go back again...

Standard hypocrisy, lesbians are "hot". Thats why you can get away with breasts and even bush in PG-13 (as long ad it's fast), but a penis is an automatic R. It's also why Brokeback, amazing film that it is has more hetero sex and female nudity than gay/male.
