no confrontation intended, my friend, as I hope you now by know... I appreciate very much your responses tonight, as I think the clarity of your position is helpful. If mine came across as snarky, it wasn't meant to be (was repeating your words back to you). I'm just trying to prod you to address some of the very issues that you yourself have been raising.

We'll leave the deontology of boobs alone, I guess (the metaphor was being stretched), but I assure you that the issue isn't my love of large breasts (my partner of 10 years has 36Ds, thanks very much), but the concession that if it doesn't matter to you, it may matter to some (and seemingly it's the majority opinion here). If we lose the respect for the real in favour of the fake, or care less and less about the differences, then we're left in a situation where expectations are inflated like so much silicone, where people after a while eschew true beauty in favour of plasticized ideals.

And, yes, this directly relates, yet again, to the joys of overly processed BDs. Let's not forget that the bazoomba talk isn't just pedestrian misogyny, it's a genuine metaphor for the, uh, "larger" issue at hand.

Speaking of keeping it real, while I know you're championing 3D, how would you feel if a given classic film (I dunno, something like Lawrence) was ONLY going to be made available in the 3D format. Is this even a concern (ie., does every 3D BD actually have a full resolution and bandwidth 2D element that can be extracted, say, by viewing one "eye" exclusively?)

I don't entirely agree that's the only thing that gets accomplished, but I do think this is the most concise articulation of your position to date, a point of view that, despite not accepting the conclusion, I respect.

You are seemingly as cynical about internet advocacy as I am about about certain studio practices, yet your experience with internet fora is, unlike my own brand of dread, schooled by years of experience with such bickering discourse.

It's after midnight, so can we say how CRAZY the day was in footy?!

happy 4th to you and your fam, and please enjoy Zhivago!

Alas , the "conditioning" to 'dnr' as the result of the recent online activists' missions (RAH and Bill) to 'save' Spartacus and Predator as well as future films from misguided practices by Uni and Fox is already having a negative effect which I feared all along, when it could have and should have all been handled behind closed doors with face to face meetings.

I’m not talking about “DNR” or what you guys think as “DNR” in Blu-ray movies.
Many VFX houses degrain the scene(s) before making a composite and then *regrain* it (with FAKE grain) after they perform their magic.
Penton,

Bill and I are not wrong.

And your advice is incorrect in these particular situations.

Are there times when communication will help?

Depends on the studio and the executives.

I have no idea where your information is coming from, but what might lead you to believe that there had been no communication with the studio?

I've always believed that potential problems are best headed off at the pass.

Your theory regarding communication will only work if people have an inclination to listen, understand and act appropriately, especially when said information comes from people who know far more than they.

RAH

I'm assuming weekend rules are in effect, as per last weekend, so my congratulations to Oliver K et. al. on the showing by dem Germans. Sickening result for my pool (with neither Messi nor Rooney scoring a single goal all tourny, I've been screwed even more by this result). I still hold on to Spain winning this aft and going on to win, but regardless it's hotting up to be a cracking final match.

Top of the morning!
The day is off to a great start with Germany and a little bike race called The Tour de France.

Bill has not yet meet with anyone of consequence at Fox concerning his unhappiness over the Blu-ray entitled Predator...yet, the rant.

I could check on that but I’ll take your word for it as true. So, in that case edit my post to …”(at least first, and if unsuccessful, other public online strategies could be employed out of desperation)"

Wait a moment, I’ll do it for you.

People that have *connections* to the industry should do the responsible thing. Rather than somehow trying to leverage a studio with a rat’s ass amount of purchasing power by *rallying the troops on the internet*, they should plead their case in a private meeting to studio executives…(at least first, and if unsuccessful, other public online strategies could be employed out of desperation) or, to a representative of the Director, etc., whether it be on ethical grounds as to maintaining the original look of the theatrical presentation with the Blu-ray incarnation or just plain what they think are better business policies to help grow the format.

That’s the way to do it and really the only viable option you’ve got as to the success of your cause.

Germany!
Maybe you folks can get that trophy this year and they can change the title to Germany 2010….

My only disappointment with the match was that incorrect hand-ball call on Müller resulting in him not being able to participate in the semis.

I wish those type of things could be repealed followed review of replays.

admit it, we'd make a hell of a softball team. Let's not forget the doctor with the Eye-talian sounding name...

Nil-Nil. I'm starting to worry Villa's not getting the 15 goals this match I need in order to improve my standing.

The finest poetic use of profanity since Shakespeare, bar none. The only blemish is that Milch wasn't allowed to finish it (booo!)

meanwhile, another article to chew over: http://www.salon.com/entertainment/m...der/index.html

Potential lesson:

Just cuz it's presented as a [X], it does not mean it is a good [X] (and will hurt the [X]'s actually done right by creating either negative or unrealistic expectations)

X can be:

- 3D film
- SACD
- BluRay High Definition disc
- Large, rounded breast

To quote Mr. Ebert:

Quote:
"The Last Airbender" is an agonizing experience in every category I can think of and others still waiting to be invented. The laws of chance suggest that something should have gone right. Not here. It puts a nail in the coffin of low-rent 3D, but it will need a lot more coffins than that.
We're left again with the fact that, short term, these conversions have been financially successful. The real question is about how much the studios can afford to actually think long term anymore (there's quite an extraordinary history of them actively eschewing long term thinking over and over again)
