He wants more info on Tommy and I’m not at liberty to give it to him. So, I guess he doesn’t want to play.

No, that was me... Or does he also love Tommy? I'm so confused...

Oh, dude, sorry... You DID say you were watching them live...

I'll give you a hint, at one point in time there was a goal...

And, erm, if "tending to business" is NOT euphemism for "mommy and daddy time", I'd somehow feel better about my effusive cheer...

After 3D, will there be more updates to the Blu-ray format? Will Blu-ray support the scalable video coding part of AVC (like it can support a version of the MVC part of AVC).

Is it true that Blu-ray players/HDTVs will be moving away from using HDMI and will use network cables instead?

Hey Penton! Have you seen anyone playing with this and 3D (or just at all) in your travels? Any cool insights

Not that I want to upgrade all my gear (i will eventually anyway), but it's about time a plug came out that makes use of existing connectors and will be fairly inexpensive... plus it would allow studio's to plug into tv's themselves

Actually there were two goals but one was wrongly ruled offside, of course it was only some guy from Paraguay who scored it

After Spain only winning over Portugal with an offside goal I have to say that I am not very impressed that Spain again did not manage to establish a real lead and I can understand that Portugal and Paraguay feel cheated.

We'll see how Spain does in the next round - they will have to do better to stand a chance if Germany plays as it did in the last two matches.

Germany really do look like the team to beat right now.

They do, but Spain certainly has enormous potential. They just were not really pushed towards showing it in the last two games and did just enough to win - will be interesting to see if they can shift gears when it counts.

I still hold on to Spain winning this aft and going on to win, but regardless it's hotting up to be a cracking final match.
You should just try to enjoy the tourny and not be disappointed when a team or player that underperformed gets justly thrown out (Rooney, Ronaldo, Messi, Argentina, England, Brazil, France, Italy) - it is much more fun that way

Before yesterday Spain also was my favourite for the title but after the Argentina match and the rather lucky win of Spain against Paraguay everything is possible for the Germans and this time we can be proud to have beaten two contenders for the title on the way to the semis.

You missed where I gave you guys congratulations, huh?

Heh, I'm not Spanish, but I did pick them to win, so there's that bias. That being said, re: the Paraguayan goal, I think that the offside call was actually a fair one (or, if not fair, than defensible). The rule, as you know, isn't whether the offending player contacts the ball, but whether or not they're engaged in affecting the play. By jumping for the header (and missing, as per slow motion replay), the offside Paraguayan player nonetheless occupied one of the defenders, one who could have engaged with the eventual (called-back) goal scorer. So, again, it's not quite as simple as all that.

I grant you the German's look pretty bloody good, but I'd also suggest that their opponents have been under-performing almost to a team, where the Spanish have met some very feisty opponents. I think it will be a very, very interesting game, with two teams completely used to dominating possession. I also think the key for Spain is to start with Cesc from the begining, moving Villa to mid field where his range really seems to shine (poor Torres has been pretty shite). It's Germany's to lose, to be sure, but I'm still not counting Spain out of it. Ditto, for that matter, for the Uruguayans, who on paper are totally dominated by the Dutch, but just might make it into the finals.

It really could be anyone's at this point, which is pretty darned great, really.

Heh, you posted this while I was writing the above...

Yes, THOROUGHLY enjoying the matches... the back-and-forth- during yesterday's Spain/Paraguay, and the German domination (and complete meltdown by the non-coach Maradonna) was a thing to behold.

This is a hell of a city to be in, as we really do have representatives of every nation and culture here. Especially for the smaller nations it's great to see the support - I've seen many a Uruguayan flag parading through the streets, there was quite a number of Ghanians cheering in bars along side ex-pat Americans... Yeah, I'm trumpeting my city, but more than almost any city in the planet we're a great place where you can find somebody here from anywhere. Plus, because we're NOT in the tourny, people are free to express patriotism in a disparate fashion, either harkening back to ancestral homes or simply picking the team you'd like to see make it through.

I always thought the Dutch, for example, would do super well, but when I made my bracket I had no way of them getting through (my real dark horse was France, who while I knew would have troubles, I thought they'd pull through and overperform. I was very, very wrong. )

For the first time ever I've been able to watch every single match of the tournament. I'm already starting to get a bit sad that there are only 4 matches left.

I am impresssed! - I think that when all is said and done I will perhaps have watched about a dozen matches completely, I have however peeked into another dozen matches and watched at least one half of them.

Hehe, cross-posting today

Yes, I am prepared to expect big things from Spain and England and Argentina underperformed to a degree which however is always a sign that the opponent does not allow them to be better. It is still important to be prepared for everything and I would hope that the German team still remembers who they lost the last European Championship final to.

Your city sounds like a great place to live, the international atmosphere must be something.
Where I live the enthusiasm is pretty much only for Germany (which I guess is rather natural).

You are right about Fabregas - he has to play from the start in the next games and regarding France I can only remind you of 2002 where already they were completely embarrassed as the defender of the title. I think when they had to go home they did not have even one goal to their credit!

I think the same and I admire the way they play.

At this point, the only question in my mind is the Dutch...and really how good are they?
I just don’t know because I haven’t been closely following their matches.
