Shark, this certainly is not as pretty as those beautiful Big Pictures that you post from Boston.com but, this is what my wife and I enjoyed during the early evening of Independence Day…

P.S.
We didn’t ride in with those ^ particular guys, though.

heh, congrats. And a note that the link above has the Paraguayan Blackberry woman showing that she's neglected the relevant part of her "lingerie model" gig.

but rather, something more sophisticated like Blackmagic's DaVinci Resolve, which was used on Ridley’s Robin Hood.
It is unfortunate that even with spohisticated tools we do not always get sophisticated results

If somebody with a good eye had handled the sharpening of the titles in question he would have noticed the halos and dialed things down until these halos do not pop up anymore.

Once they're there we cannot take them away but with the majority of Blu-Ray players, projectors and displays we can add our own sharpening so it is much better to err on the conservative side with these sharpening tools. It is then for the user to decide about the amount of artefacts he wants to add to the picture and that's the way it should be.

Btw: Most of the time when you post content from Sony it is blocked over here

Does the tour of the Outside Broadcast Truck come through to you?
http://vimeo.com/12586754

or, are you receiving the converging on the converging work station?

(the “Sony 3D box” ^ as John calls it, is the unassuming thin rectangular shaped MPE-200 which was THE must-have at the past NAB 2010…at least for 3D professionals in the know)

And if you can’t view this, then that’s truly a crime as it’s in your native language…

After the World Cup is over and everything has settled down, I’ll see if I can scrounge up an official “3D Team” embroidered jacket from the event and maybe do some sort of contest to award it out. Though, at this stage, I’m a little hesitant about doing that sort of thing again because when I gifted an official Sony Blu-ray leather jacket (think $$) to a fellow member here in the past, I didn’t even receive a simple Thank You in return.

Hey, you’re preaching to the choir here but, you’re oh so right.
But alas, many 'review Gods" never picked up on the digital manipulation anyway.

Another example is dust busting. Best to do a monitored automatic pass with conservative settings and then go back a second time, manually, to clean up what the software missed which, if memory serves, I think is shown here in this Austrian demo/tutorial (are you able to view this? Oliver), if one doesn't fall asleep half-way through while listening to the hypnotic monotone voice…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPGeo...eature=related

P.S.
Hey, shark, when one remove scratches and such from film, ALL the software solutions degrain that spot in order to fix the defect(s), so, afterwards guess what we use to put texture back into the fixed area in order that it match the remainder of the image, so it doesn’t stand out like a patch on a bicycle tube?

FAKE grain.

FAKE grain.
yes, aware, discussed repeatedly. But the questions remains, do you prefer fake to real, if one had to choose? And, again, for those not paying attention, by "grain", you mean "boobs".

Meanwhile, G-oranje!

Thanks for the interesting links, I can see them all. I should have been more precise with what I said as I was referring to the youtube link you posted - that one turns up with this error and many other youtube links, too:
Dieses Video enthält Content von Sony Music Entertainment. Es ist in deinem Land nicht mehr verfügbar.
which means: This video has content from Sony Music Entertainment. It is not available anymore in your country.

Not even a thank you in return is really something - I am always surprised about the carelessness of some people in these matters.

BTW: I also have a Sony jacket - I have quite a few items from the long abandoned Hi-Vision format (including Lawrence of Arabia and a few other Sony titles) and as of late I came into the possession of a jacket that says "Hi-Vision Master" on its back

But enough - gotta go now and make preparations for the Netherlands vs Uruguay semi

Why does he select 50i when the Sony 1500 cameras he has can use 1080p50?

Why does he change the distance between the stereo cameras ie. bring the cameras in close together for a closeup - since our eyes don't get closer or further apart (they converge but they don't get closer/further apart)?

Neth over Uruguay 3-1, Spain over Germany 2-1, Spain over Neth 1-0. There, I've predicted, predictions that, predictably, will be wrong.
Well, I got the "3" for Neth correct, and that last minute goal screwed me...

Here's hoping I get the rest right!

^ the EYE Film Institute Netherlands (a.k.a. the Nederlands Filmmuseum) has a well respected head curator by the name of Giovanna Fossati . They do fabulous work and in this particular case in collaboration with laboratory staff at Haghefilm. Giovanna does the honors...

^ A must watch for folks interested in the effects of unmonitored automated scratch removal tools..for, if they can make the head of a dog disappear (which is shown somewhere later on in the clip), then surely getting rid of measly arrows flying thru the air is child’s play.
Thanks PENTON real nice demo. Ah the internet ,you can find anything any time.

You realize that I’m not singling you out personally, don’t you?

I’m using you as a vehicle to poke fun at all the *grain gurus* online who give the impression they know everything about film grain with their authoritatively sounding *opinions* expressed on some internet boards when the issue of real vs. fake grain comes up.

It’s quite obvious that none have dealt with restoring large scratches in films or compositing and keying vfx which is much more easily facilitated with a grain free image in the visual effects pipeline....after which you re-grain.

Now how many motion pictures these days contain at least some vfx (ergo fake grain) in them and have gone through the DI process?

LOTS
