As I take it that contrary to what the article says they did not really work off a Technirama print that for all I know never existed I would like to know if they got an IP to work with or even the OCN?

Oliver, you’re getting very close to my home.

Of course, that article is wrong. Writers often just think in terms of prints because they don't really know the various elements and so forth. It is a benign mistake. The original negative is what was scanned.

Sooooooo....is there ink actually drying on the Rossi to Ducati deal now that Stoner is officially going to Honda?

http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/raci...t-with-ducati/

Or is Rossi just destined for the limelight and rumor mill even while not racing?

Lance imo is foolish to taint his legacy the way he does. There is also the danger of "supplements" that he allegedly has used and these rumors would probably not have resurfaced to the extent they have if he had stayed in retirement.

When I press the Panasonic Viera 3D TV's romote "info" button when playing 1080P FULL HD 3D Blu-ray media, the screen displays 1080P Cinema 3D.

This would mean 1080P for each eye? Correct?

For some DirecTV 3D DVR programs recordings I have made, like "Dinosaurs: Giants of Patagonia", the info on the TV screen will also display 1080P Cinema 3D. Wouldn't this also mean 1080P for each eye even though it is from a satellite source?

There are a lot of satellite 3D broadcasts I admit that are recorded where the television info display will read "1080i Cinema 3D", like for the ESPN 3D "Spain Vs. Netherlands" World-Cup Soccer game, or "1080i THX Full" when I play "S.O.S. Planet", where the program also doesn't seem to have "auto" 3D flags in it. i.e. I have to manually choose "side by side" 3D in the 3D setup menu to see the picture correctly in 3D.

Great, now I know where I can go for 6k scanning of (Super) Technirama negatives

I am very impressed that Sony Colorworks was allowed to work with the OCN - that must have been at least a bit exciting for all the parties involved

It makes me a bit sad though that Criterion did not wait for the superior results of that 6k scan in order to put out a better product with their Blu-Ray release, but hopefully we will soon see another company rising to the occasion.

I think Lance will be more content in retirement now with the ways things have gone this year. Sounds like he's not going to just roll over this year though. Basso said he saw him out on the bike this morning which means he still has plans for doing something special. Like I said, I like the attitude that I've seen so far with how he's taking this. I thought I heard Paul Sherwen say Lance was going to do Ironman next year - not sure if that is definite or just the usual speculation we've heard for years. Lance handled yesterday very gracefully and didn't duck the TV interview afterwards. Hats off to him for that.

With the TdF telecasts now in HD, you need to get on World Cycling Productions to get their annual TdF DVDs on Blu-ray too. I checked their website today and no sign of anything Blu-ray.

While a little bit more probably could not hurt native 65mm 5perf might want to be scanned at 10k in that case and standard 35mm will want to be bumped up to 5k

Here is the math:
65mm 5 perf is scanned at roughly 8000 by 3600 (8k) and Super Technirama and the other 8perf horiontal formats (Technirama, VistaVision) are scanned at about 6000 by 4000. 65mm is about one third wider and a little less high compared to the 35mm 8perf elements so the resolving power of the scan relative to the negative area is about the same for both formats. So the scan resolution across the wider part of the negative of 4k, 6k and 8k actually makes sense and assures a consistent resolution of the scan relative to the real estate of the negative.

Denon, I think you'll be long involved in watching motion pictures at home for years to come no matter what the delivery format is.

I cried like a baby during Hachi.
I love movies, plain and simple. While I want the best presentation possible when I watch I don't let a little DNR, grain, etc. ruin the experience for me.

After the watching "Hachi," I joked with my wife that we should have had a double feature with "Beaches," another tearjerker!

Might I suggest another truth to get back to the babes, the beer and the more technical side of our hobby?

I volunteer a pic of a very nice looking lady that was taken while she was acting in a movie mentioned today:
timeless

Looks good, and a decent set of extras, but the Criterion LD is still worth keeping if you're lucky/silly enough to have it for the rest of the niddly bits.

Pretty sure during an event like that, photographers would be trying to photograph every second because you never know when something major is going to happen/

ps. this still stands:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/1655442-post7215.html

the doc on the disc is excellent, and the Zodiac disc is totally under appreciated. All this talk of crappo discs, and not enough when the film is done justice on the film AND so-called "extras" department.
