That holo is horrifying, and while nice about the girl surfing, for obvious reasons I like when the sharks win...

I’m not quite sure if it is more disturbing that *her* concert apparently played to a sold out capacity audience or, the fact that some writers for tech sites are calling it a “hologram” when it’s actually only a 2D projection on a transparent screening surface.

Nevertheless, for Blu-ray fans, *she* has a/the concert on Blu-ray (2D)….http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B003S9U5CS?ie=UTF8

And, this morning, *her* YouTube clip has broken the 1,000,000 hit barrier!
Me thinks ‘S1mOne’ would be jealous…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=salcZxwspxg

I'd say it's more of an "it" since there is no A.I. involved.

I really must visit there someday.

Hi Penton,

just wanted to let you know that we had a very good attendance today at our LoA matinee - I would say at least 95% of the seats were sold

Next month we'll show Lord Jim - probably not to as big an audience but we hope that it will at least break even.

How was the condition of the print?

The print had a few scratches here and there but other than that it looked really very good with a very good balance of colors, density and shadow detail. It is from the initial run of prints that were made after the restoration was completed and therefore it still has 6 channel magnetic sound.

Well, we had a rather large group of guys and gals (many being service folks with their spouses) over this past Saturday night for the PPV broadcast of the fight and fighter who many think (including me) may be ‘The Greatest Ever’, even greater than Ali because for one thing, Pacquiao displays speed and hits with great power with both fists -
http://www.nbc.com/news-sports/msnbc...in-his-corner/

This is how the fight turned out for those oblivious to boxing history…
http://www.mefeedia.com/tv/33753638

Though, the buzz around town all weekend long wasn’t so much the Pac Man fight but, serious allegations about a Seal http://www.singonsandiego.com/news/2...-still-jailed/

For the sake of the Teams, the Navy and the accused, I truly hope there are extenuating circumstances.

P.S. If some are wondering what is the eventual ‘Blu-ray’ movie connection, the accused Seal was a consultant and extra on the upcoming feature film Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

I'm happy it worked out so well.

Given the Blu-ray news of Lebanonhttps://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=5454
I’ll remind folks of some comments I made about the motion picture last September, specifically –

The D.P., Giora Bejach won top honors (the Golden Frog) for this motion picture at the 2009 Plus Camerimage (http://www.pluscamerimage.pl), which is the festival recognizing cinematographers in Europe. I don’t remember, but you may have reviewed it for last year’s TIFF. The camera work is so superb, it should be required viewing at most film schools."

All I’ll add at this time is that for discerning viewers who are truly interested in cinematography and post production (or fancy themselves as such) then challenge yourselves to refrain from reading the Technical specs listed on IMDB (or, for that matter, any upcoming review which may make reference to them) and see if you can figure out on your own, the acquisition and post of the imagery, without ‘cheating’ so to speak.

Also, as an interesting aside (or, in this case, a better word might be *inside*), which adds to the ‘feeling’ of the film, is that a lot of the exterior footage was shot as POV through a viewfinder of the cannoneer, resulting in the audience only seeing what the cannoneer sees with his eyes, therefore further adding to the claustrophobic nature of the film being with him inside the tank.

P.S.
b.t.w., does anyone know (esp. from personal experience) normally what the inside of an Israeli or, for that matter, an American tank is really colored? Sometimes, movie-making colors are better suited for story-telling than *natural/real* colors in life.

Penton,

I have a good friend who used to drive tanks back in the late 80s-early 90s. I've just sent him the question and I'll post back once I hear.

Edit: Well, that was fast. He says they are painted white because when the hatch is closed it gets very dark in there. Makes sense to me.

3D Tidbit of the Day

Live-Action 3D can be challenging (but...*the tougher the journey, the more fulfilling the reward*) even for a Master of the Cinema…
http://screencrave.com/2010-11-14/ma...ScreenCrave%29

It requires a different set cinematographic principles to facilitate and enhance story-telling. For example, fast cutting and long lenses may be great for story-telling in 2D but, wider framing, wider lenses and gentle editorial cuts with depth blending between the cuts is essential for realistic as well as comfortable 3D imagery.

One D.P.’s perspective on the course he took this past year to increase his 3D skills…https://www.cameraguild.com/training...Hartowicz.aspx

P.S. The D.P. for the past feature film, Quantum of Solace is attending this week’s course ^.

The thing that I dislike most about news like this ^, is that it seems too often to occur around the Holiday season which is tough on the employees of whatever company.

I’ve got a copy. Just no time to watch/listen to it.
Which reminds me. It must be starting to get chilly up there in Toronto. Do you have your next dive trip planned yet and where to?

And it seems like most of these businesses are shuttering California operations and keeping open facilities in other states or countries.

don't remind me, this time last year I was gearing up for BVI. Alas, no dive trips planned this winter

If I stopped buying all these damn shiny discs I might be able to afford it...
