Yes I did

Unfortunately I don't have the tier of cable that gets me the 3D channel. I'm not sure I want to give another $12.95 a month to Comcast...I'm trying to convince the "boss" that we can do it

BTW Penton-Man, in the picture of Spider-Man's suit, were some things ripped off after his fight with the certain villain he fought? Like, is there supposed to be some sort of belt on his waist, or is the picture of the suit the complete suit (sans mask of course), with everything how it's supposed to be? Also, looking at an enhanced photo of the suit, there looks to be a red line going down his leg. Is this just a mistake made by enhancing the picture, or is it actually there?

Nice! Thanks.

Congrats, the SPC film Hævnen just won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign. It's a crap show, but should help generate interest in the film!

Hi Penton,

Apologies if its been asked already but what do you make of LG's move to adopt passive 3d in the majority of its tvs for 2011 and its claims that it will make 3d successful in the home?

Cheers,
Mick

Read this thread. LG and Vizio share the same plant and use the same passive technology. The method they use cuts the 3D resolution in half. Samsung is working on a full resolution 3D passive technology but that is not yet available.

Also look at my previous comment:

Hi Penton-Man,
Super excited to see the official announcement of Stand By Me, a wonderful film that still holds up just as well for me now as it did when I was 13 watching it for the first time in 1986.
I was wondering if you can share any info about the transfer, whether it's newly minted, lineage, etc? This is a day one purchase for me, from the first instrumental notes of the score to the first sentence Richard Dreyfuss narrates I always have waves of nostalgia and emotions running amok when I watch this one, can't wait.
Thanks for any input you have on it.

Dropping in for a quick hello.

Shark – too funny YouTube clip.

Received several PM’s about Amazon not listing Legends of the Fall with an exact street date on their pre-order page, at least as of this morning….seems there’s some thread somewhere on this forum inquiring about that. Check Amazon’s site later as to an update regarding a specific date.

Also, got several PM’s about Taxi Driver, given Robert De Niro’s lifetime achievement award at the recent Golden Globes which included a short montage of his work. Anyway, SPHE has not announced a street date to retailers (in ANY country yet), but will shortly, so stay tuned.

Dobyblue – Hi. I’ll get back to you, I’ve got to go now…super busy (and happy after all the hardware that The Social Network picked up and esp. David Fincher’s recognition during the show).

Just rewatched SN (hadn't seen it since theatres) - still not my fav of the year, but it's a hell of a movie. David Prior continues to do the most excellent work with the so-called extras, so please, if you have any connection whatsoever to that branch, let him know that one film nerd truly does appreciate the time, effort and expense put into the likes of this film (plus the severely underrated ZODIAC, PANIC ROOM, etc.)

I hope they recognize him at the big show too. I was thrilled to hear "Hand Covers Bruise" every time the movie was listed as a nominee, and over the moon that Trent and Atticus got the nod for best score as I think it's original and brilliant and love that it's in 5.1 on Blu-ray Audio as well. It looks like Trent has already announced he's scoring David's next movie as well which is terrific news.

Doby, did you buy that disc from their site? I was holding off in the off chance that they'd include a lossless score on the theatrical discs (kinda like they did with Inception). Any comments on quality? (hope you don't mind, P, it's a Sony product after all... )

Penton,

Did you see Robert Downey Jr. on the Golden Globes? He was freaking hilarious.

I find it to be absolutely stunning. The score is excellent, the surround mix is really well done and very immersive without jumping all over the place and the Blu-ray disc is very easy to navigate and start...definitely worth adding the Blu-ray soundtrack disc to your collection.

SWEET. Thanks to Bill's site, saw that Taschen's finally bringing out the Napoleon book as a non-limited edition. While I'd love the $1500 monstrosity, this will be a nice addition to the library.

This is correct, but from my experience in evaluating half-rez vs full-rez 3D models during the BDA's 3D spec process I didn't see a significant difference. If I were buying a set I'd certainly consider a passive model (assuming 2D performance was comparable), as the far less expensive glasses and lack of need to manage charging would potentially offset the image degradation.

Hi Penton,

Went to see the Green Hornet last night in 3d.. thought it was good.. but what I wanted to ask if its looking like it will have a sequel? I think a sequel could be a lot of fun..

also i've read a few things where people have said it feels more like a 'summer' movie that a winter release.. was there a specific reason for the winter release?

Cheers,
mick

Hey Penton, I may have missed it but is there any insight as to why a 2K DI was done for The Social Network rather than a 4K end to end workflow considering its 4K capture with the Red?

Sensational Blu-ray! I also am a huge fan of the BD of the score as I am a long time fan of Trent and NIN (even helped them a bit with their first concert BD!).
