It's hardly as in depth as much of the stuff we usually get here, but it does touch on a wide number of issues/concerns that the regulars of this thread have addressed, including the pleasing fact that they've maintained the original mono as well as the augmented 5.1 "reconstruction" audio track.

Looks to be an epic release of an epic film!
I’ll read the entire article later. Sounds good and I’m looking forward to the Blu-ray.

Frankly, I think he should lose his job because she's no "looker" unless you have a few beers in you
As above, I'll read it later as I'm trying to get out of here to enjoy the rat race on the freeways.

P-Man, I don't know why you're more disappointed in Roger Ebert for his closed-mindedness. If you've been following his public writing over the last few years, you'll probably have noticed that such closed-mindedness, sadly, seems about all he's been capable of lately. Ebert used to be a guy, like Murch, who really seemed to give things consideration and perspective. In the last few years, though, it appears he's traded that for a reactionary clutch at the familiar. A sadder outcome than his other recent difficulties, if you ask me.

Doesn't Roger Ebert want everyone to change to MaxiVision48 (which was designed in 1999) instead of what they're using now (which is based on standards set in the 1920s?)?

He wants them to change to MaxiVision48 instead of to digital projection. I agree with his assessment of the qualities of MaxiVision, but he ties himself into a pretzel of willful ignorance to utterly discount the particular benefits of digital projection at the same time. Among those benefits, a price-range that's within plausibility for exhibitors, to say nothing of feature production.

Nice Iceman, forum stalking feature.

All kidding aside that sounds like an interesting option.

Yeah, I know how he feels. I never did understand or embrace the “hickey” thing during my more sexually adventurous years.

Here’s an alternative that he and you may enjoy. Last night at home, I projected the Secretariat Blu-ray to an audience of both adults and children. Some of the adults wept (hey, they’re horse people like moi), the kids were mesmerized by the story of one of the greatest racehorses in history….and the female executives in the audience had a broad smile on their faces throughout the entire flick.

The Blu-ray appealed to a wide demographic in my household.

I would expect some computer savvy lurkers to somehow get around your tracking system, lol, as it wouldn’t look good to the general membership if they were reading this thread.

Let’s see, who knows a lot about computers and lives in Philadelphia, Pa. or Irvine, Ca.

Well, I haven’t been following his public writings over the past few years so, maybe that explains it.

My thinking was I would hope that someone like Roger who, at least in the past, has had extensive consultation with medical professionals that have undoubtedly expressed to him things like percentage chances of complications, risk factors and success rates with various surgical procedures, etc…. that he, if anyone, would not be such a proponent of absolutism i.e. (“Case Closed”) when it has to do with science….any science, in this case, 3D science.

He's coming off as a very bitter man at this point with his latest condemnation.

On that ^ medical note, this potential attribute of 3D is something else that I’ve spoken about in the past (namely, discovering unrecognized (by parents) eyes disorders in their children with the help of 3D entertainment) in an attempt to enlighten (or at least curtail) the 3D fear-mongers who think of anything they can to discredit 3D. Of particular pertinent importance, is this statement…

”In fact, the optometrists group said 3-D viewing for children might actually help uncover subtle disorders that, left uncorrected, often result in learning difficulties….Discomfort when viewing 3-D in movies, TV and Nintendo’s 3DS may be an important sign of undetected vision disorders, the AOA said. Parents should be aware that current vision screening technologies employed in schools and pediatricians’ offices cannot substitute for comprehensive eye exams that detect and treat these problems.”

^ That “optometrists group” be the American Optometric Association….http://blog.broadcastengineering.com...cessarily-bad/

Restorations of the two classic 3D Three Stooges shorts are completed.

The classic 3D flicks The Mad Magician (which I made a subtle reference to several weeks ago, I think to doctorossi?) as well as Miss Sadie Thompson are nearing final completion.

Many month ago I had asked you about if the PS3 will have checkerboard output so the Samsung 3d capable DLP sets could play PS3 3D games and watch 3D movies. You were kind enough to ask Sony for me. Unfortunately it was not the answer I wanted to hear.

Mitsubishi has just announced they will be putting out a 3D adapter that will be compatible with the Samsung 3D capable DLP sets so potentially that number of people who can watch 3D Blu-ray movies and play PS3 3D games has greatly increased! This adapter is also compatible with other 3D sources such as set top boxes.

cool, will they be available for purchase soon? I think we need some classic 3D movies in real BD 3D to show that it can help with catalogue 3D movies.

Hi Penton,

I've seen reference to Will Smith remaking 'Annie' with his daughther Willow in the lead part.. any news you can share on this? Will this lead to a blu-ray release of the original Annie? Does it need a restoration?

Cheers,
Mick

Penton,

My family enjoyed this as well. It was nice to see the "story" behind the historic horse.
