As for Monty Python’s Holy Grail, it was a challenging project because, like with some other Monty Python early stuff, it required intense work during the dust removal portion of the project, but unlike that with The Meaning of Life, for which those Uni folks had a comparatively easier time of it in producing the DVD version of that particular motion picture, unfortunately, we ran out of quarters while at the local Laundromat which delayed things somewhat before the material was finally handed off to the artist in charge to be “first delicately stroked into submission, then driving it firmly into place”…

YouTube - Monty Python's The Meaning of Life - Film Restoration

Anyway, bottom line, the June 28th Blu-ray release date for this title which I’ve been alerted to as listed on certain websites (http://releaselists.com/BLURAYNorthAmerica.html) is absolutely not correct and at the present moment it is uncertain as to when this title will debut on Blu-ray.
Well next time you're in Dublin give me a shout and I'll bring you to the best pubs. In return you can bring me to McP's
I don't remember anything recent from you on Navarone (I haven't been dipping in as regularly as I did, online in general not just here), but I do remember you mentioning it a couple of years back. Good to hear it's definitely coming, it's always been a favourite of myself and my brother (it seemed to show on TV a couple of times every year when we were younger )

Nice video too

We’re approaching 65mm OCN-scanned at 4K image quality digitally with the F65

That is exciting to see so much backing now. Hopefully it will continue.

saw THOR in 3D in our local AVX equip'd theatre (ie., RealD)

I was pleased, personally, with the more subtle use of 3D (I've discussed that before here, of course). It never really felt gimicky, and added depth and scope where required, but used more traditional depth when called for. I'm thinking specifically of the scene where the two of them are sharing a large beer - it's a traditional 2-shot, and rather than being annoying and placing objects in front of them to make some silly depth-of-field, it's plays as a comfortable-to-watch shot.

Plus, the film's not too bad either, much better than the trailer belied.

3D can be a lot of fun to watch. Now that more content is becoming available and the price of 3D equipment is dropping to an affordable level many more customers should be giving 3D equipment a serious look. I have found that some people are buying 3D TVs not for the immediate viewing of 3D content but for the superior picture quality and so they can view 3D perhaps in the future. Comcast and Verizon along with Direct TV now offer some 3D content. I hope the price of the 3D Blu-ray discs come down to an affordable level.

PM - Samsung has just announce a 75" LCD 3D TV for only about $16,000 (in Korea) and Mitsubishi will be coming out with a 92" 3D DLP set soon for about $5000. So if you want a big TV consider them.

lol… love the title of your thread –https://forum.blu-ray.com/3d-technol...-like-not.html

I think it qualifies as about a 9 or 10 on the sphincter scale for the 3D hate-mongers.

I’m told for ‘Thor’, on opening weekend, 50% of moviegoers elected to see it in 3D. The exact stat must be somewhere on the web by now.

Over the past weekend, I was invited to (and attended with my wife) the black carpet premier of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (in 3D) at Disneyland…pretty cool open air theater set-up for the event, even nature intervened with a slight drizzle during the Mermaid scene.

If you get the chance to see that flick, I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the aesthetics of the 3D for POTC 4…experienced people involved in the work.

Now, onto bumper cars on the freeway.

Penton,

Was the movie any good? My wife and kids love the first three (I loved the first and thought the second and third were mediocre).

Thanks!

Well, honestly, I didn’t go into it with a movie critic mindset…more like a motion picture enthusiast taking in the ambience of the whole Event, nevertheless, we both enjoyed the movie itself and the audience seemed very enthusiastic. So, as objective as I can be about critiquing the flick, my personal feeling is that it is well worth the price of admission, so, I say, - go for it! Also, keep in mind I’m a push-over for a combination of mermaids, a monkey and a hot Latina pirate.

The only *downside* to the experience for me was that the fans kept singing “Yo-Ho, yo-ho….a pirate’s life for me” and I couldn’t get that darn tune out of my head for a couple of days.

P.S.
The nice thing about the event was that the paying ticket proceeds went to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Nice gesture on the part of the House of Mouse.

Coincidentally, your Sharks upcoming opponent (who have home ice advantage) herald from the same city to which I travel for the next BDA meeting. Great local bike riding on the North Shore and surrounding environs deserving of a side trip after work

All these years later (man I feel old) this was one of the key reasons to still keep a "red" player around.
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Grand.../21007/#Review

FABULOUS to hear, from this review at least, that that fine release has been not only ported to Blu, but surpassed. Excellent news, now we can only pray that other stalwarts such as LEBOWSKI can find their way in versions that better the other HD version they're supplanting.

Same here. This brings me one step closer to retiring the red player.

Now we just need Mutiny on the Bounty. The Brando version of course.

Still have the copy of Lebowski you gave me. For that you get an appreciative, DUDE....!
