I have a nephew (born and bred in Alexandria) who attends U.Va. and he told me that they really felt it in C-ville.

But you’re right, after living awhile in Cali, a 5.8? is about sufficient to stir one’s coffee in the morning.

Well, doctorossi failed to inform me that the Arsenal sold 3 of their best players and I went into watching the match with ManU this weekend clueless to that *little* fact.

Suffice to say if that match didn’t kill me by the end of the carnage, I don’t think anything will.

Great movie! As a matter of fact, I'll be meeting up with a buddy of mine tomorrow(Irene permitting) who's an ex-Army Ranger and was there in Mogadishu('93 the First Battle). He got me a signed copy of Mike Durant's book Company of Heroes(Which I gave to my Dad, retired military).

Since you brought it up( ), any chance of Sony rolling out a "beefed up" 20th Anniversary edition of this great movie in 2 years? That includes all the great extras from the deluxe dvd...man I can only hope!!
^ I have no information on that topic at this time. If you would like yet another book which I think your Dad may find interesting, might I recommend this
http://www.amazon.com/Great-Raid-Wil.../dp/078688780X

b.t.w., it’s also available on Blu-ray.

If you've been laid up this week, I hope you got a chance to watch the Vuelta and Colorado race on TV. A plethora of cycling on this week. Get well.
I watched every stage of the Colorado race and it’s nice to see big-time pro racing back in that state. I thought the stage profiles were rather *benign* but I guess they wanted to keep everyone together for the most part rather than having a runaway.

As an aside, last time I raced Leadville (mountain bike), I was browsing through a Mom-and-Pop style bike shop there and actually found (rolled up in the corner with years of dirt and dust covering it), one of the original banners of the Coors International Bicycle Classic. I bought the thing for something like $20. As it was so large (long) the owner could never sell it to anyone over the years and I brought it home where my Dad and I tacked it up along a beam in our garage and it provided great inspiration to me for years as I left my garage on morning rides.

Penton,
Glad to see you up & posting! I trust that means a few steps closer to recovery?

Great book! My Dad did, in fact, read it AND told me about the film(which I just Netflixed about a month ago). I guess something about great minds...
Anyway, glad to see active!

I’ve got a few irons in the fire.

I know you like to hear about any cutting-edge ASM news but, I can’t say much at this time. Only on a rather rare collaborative technical note, that ‘Alembic’ is being used on Spider-man......and to give equal billing to ILM – on ‘The Avengers’. In a nutshell, it permits animation graphics files to migrate between software apps easily, something which was not possible with previous file formats.

If you’re thinking about a career in this sort of thing, here is a more detailed explanation –
http://www.alembic.io/

And if you have any younger brothers or sisters, this is a nice 3D offering from the House of Mouse to young theatre goers , i.e. customized 3D glasses for those 8 years and younger (children's IPD’s are narrower than those of adults) -

East Coast earthquakes are different the the West Coast. First is was a shallow earthquake and it was in rock so it was felt much further. West Coast earthquakes are usually a lot deeper and the ground in much softer so it does travel as far.

Where I live about 90 miles away in North Potomac, MD my house start to shake for about 30 seconds but nothing broke. During the six months I spent in Palo Alto, California I never felt any earthquakes.

Don't worry- we've got the captain of South Korea... until he has to leave for military service in a year.

As a Liverpool fan, I obviously wish the score had been reversed. Although, it was fun to see the press overreacting to this scoreline, even though the game only proved that Manchester's first team can easily beat what was essentially Arsenal's reserve/youth squad.

Meanwhile, I was kinda waiting for Penton to bring it up, as I figured he might even show up for this one:

I’ve been busy searching the web for screenshots of the upcoming Star Wars Blu-rays in order to get an early preview on what there is to come. Where the heck is xylon, when you really need him?

I've avoided all threads 'till now just to avoid the inevitable onslaught of kvetching, but stumbled over there just to peak.

The discourse is even uglier than I feared...
