Is this your dog?

^ I’d post the original link but, it’s gone viral and seems to lock up too often.
LOL! You have to love the smile of a Golden! Actually my dog would be trying to crawl unto the quitar players lap and lick his face. Yeah my Golden will automatically befriend anyone...including any potential intruders!
On a side note, I did notice a PS3 remote on the table(i think)...great plug Penton!

Awesome news . I am a huge fan of the series. Looks like a big year for Sony with Bond and Spiderman. Really hoping for the studio to make some massive $$ in 2012 .

Cool To shake or not to shake.

I guess we can stop worrying about shakycam overdose then.
Great news.

Indeed.
I try never to complain, as I figure, if the infrastructure of the organization is solid, then there will always be peaks and valleys in the biz and some folks always have it worse off than you do, if you look around a little…

Of course, all my mortgages are paid off, so I guess that affords me some peace of mind too.

I keep reading more & more articles like this lately. Probably because CES is starting. But it does seem that 3D at home is a non-starter.

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2012/...-d-technology/

I think the fact that they charged such a premium, required different glasses between manufacturers, said glasses are expensive, lack of software, etc.

Non-starter seems a bit of an exaggeration, especially when, in an article written by someone who doesn't like 3D at home, even states at the end that enthusiasm and acceptance are on the rise.

Dismissing those consumers who actually like their 3D at home, perhaps then we should cease all R&D on 3D and totally concentrate on the Big 3?... http://displaydaily.com/2011/12/15/t...logy-for-2012/

1.Tablets
2.Connected TVs
3.Cloud Computing
How do you like dem ^ apples.

Oh, and for those consumers who are willing/happy to sit close enough to their TVs to enjoy a truly immersive experience while chasing the best PQ money can buy…or have the space and $$ for 100 in. displays/screens (price points which will most assuredly decrease over time), let’s totally give up on 4k, especially 4kBD, right now.

For the Big 3 will grow and grow and then dominate forever!

Independent of recent consumer electronics sales trends, I do think the idea of a 4K home format is premature to the point of being perhaps... well... pointless.

It would be great for OCN scans of large-format classics, to be displayed on 20' diagonal home screens, but those movies aren't even selling in significant numbers to the people with regular-sized screens.

None of the above 3 is of any interest to me as a film lover.
Yes there is the convenience factor that surrounds those options, which is attractive to many. But film is meant to Large, Immersive and Life like.
You are meant to lose yourself in the experience.

So bring on 4K!

Not a cheerleader for 3D, but things are meant to evolve. I`m sure as it matures it will be an very appealing product.

Writing negative articles on new emerging technologies is like shooting fish in a barrel for some writers and is par for the course. It's almost like a 'rite of passage' new CE gizmos have to go through.

Pointless for you maybe, but if 4k can duplicate...nay, surpass the 70 mm theatrical viewing experience of the '60s, I'd be a happy customer.

Never-the-less...can anyone who currently has a HT projector set-up not drool over the prospect of throwing a 4k 3D image on their screens.

Holy Moley that would be sweet and worth the price of an upgrade imo.

Whoa Nellie, what about 35mm source? I thought I went through this process with you guys in previous discussions during months/years past and this recent DenonCI linked article was the final nail in the coffin to that sort of thinking, which I quoted here…
https://forum.blu-ray.com/insider-di...ml#post5598476

What I’m referring to is p.2 of the article which DenonCI posted, namely this sentence – “A direct 2K/4K scan comparison of a scene from The Odessa File on a 1920 x 1080 HD monitor was equally revealing. One close-up of a military officer showed gobs of additional fine detail in his beard that were simply washed out in the earlier 2K scan.” Point being, The Odessa File was shot 35mm. and the “1920 x 1080 HD monitor” referred to, is nowhere near the size of a 20 ft. diagonal screen.

I will grant you one thing though, as more and more features are shot with digital cameras like the Red Epic and some shots are blown up to crop something out (like for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), this DI process could decrease effective resolution (below ‘4k’) on a shot by shot basis.

By the way, for fans of https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=7994,
there’s also a little spiel on p.2 of that linked Home Theater article about ‘Holy Grail’.

Well, unfortunately, they (classics) never really did anyway…https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-mo...ml#post5512139
So that’s nothing new.

What about it?

You don't have to sell me on the value of a 4K scan of a 35mm source; I don't recall questioning it. I'm talking about the practicalities of timing versus industry practice. When end-to-end 4K is de rigeur, we can talk. Until then, I still think it's premature. And that still doesn't address the issue of displays large enough for a significant number of people to notice the difference. That's not just an issue of affordability; with practical display technologies, it will remain an issue of space. Significant amounts of people aren't going to have home theatres that can compete for size with commercial theatres in any economy, let alone this one.

Don't get me wrong- I'm all for 4K in the abstract. I just think it makes close to zero sense as a consumer product right now.
