Contrary to opinion most technology doesn't depend on Apple despite their monopolistic attempts to control the streaming media market.

How'd I know I couldn't use an Apple example without prompting a derisive O/T comment from Peter?

Here's the bottom line:

Do you have a better picture at home today than you did 10 years ago?

Yes.

Did you have a better picture at home 10 years ago than you did 10 years before that?

Yes.

So, pick up on the pattern already.

Off topic? Apple's trying to push video performance inferior to "bag of hurt" Blu-ray.

Do you have better audio (I'm not talking home theater audio) than 10 years ago?

No.

Will you have better picture at home 10 years from now with AppleTV video streaming than Blu-ray or Blu-ray 4K?

No.

Right. Off-topic.

The 4k revolution is just now beginning. 4k Blu-ray will be one component of that 4k revolution and, as I said, as the physical media home deliverable, it will offer the best quality.

People should get you on the list for press screenings outside of the Toronto International Film Festival too.

On topic. We'll never get to see REAL high performance 4K in the home if Apple gets its monopoly on home entertainment and kills Blu-ray and any hard copy media, which is what it wants.

Right, 'cause we're all still using Apple IIs.

Hey, speaking of other camera manufacturers and their users, if you have the opportunity, please tell Stacey to grab his Red with that long lens, stop with the lighthouses and get some unique Snowy stuff for us animal lovers…

Thanks for the compliment Penton, though I am no longer doing Blu-ray reviews. Other than commenting on titles for hardware reviews, you won't be seeing me on the Blu-ray review marquee for sometime I imagine. But I'm still consuming them at a voracious rate!

And lest us not forget an early reveal …and look (of one of the stars) for the 007 fans out there….http://ow.ly/i/rfhQ/original

For one thing, I think this pic is a testament to how Super 35MM-sized sensor digital motion picture cameras (like the Alexa) enable the cinematographer to more easily achieve a shallow depth of field in contrast to those cameras with 2/3" sensors.

which, I think, is quite a lot for a 5-year-old.

I've just figured out how to future-proof ALL of my technological purchases:

I'm always going to wait for the "next big thing". Problem solved!

Well, be careful out there.

Not suggesting any personal experience per se, as I always attempt to follow all traffic laws (especially those regarding exceeding the posted speed limits)…. in spite of any *exuberance* I may have in getting from Location A to Location B but, just in case things ‘go bad’ on the drive up...my *friend* tells me that websites like these come in mighty handy as a viable option to spending all day long in Traffic School in order to erase any newly accumulated points from one’s record - http://www.gototrafficschool.com/Cou....aspx?rgn=2041

Rules and regs vary from state to state…and even county to county – not that I would know from personal experience, mind you.

Well my next tv will certainly be a 4k one (as big as possible.) Maybe two years from now if i am lucky. Partnered with a PS4 (i know you cannot comment) but i believe the new console will tie in with the release of the HEVC and that 2013 is a perfectly reasonable release date. I certainly do not want tablet control though. I love the current controllers. Hopefull OLED and 4k/full 3d will be the perfect balance for quality fans. Having said that, i will only buy new releases on 4k bluray.

Thanks P for the link, I finally took a chance to listen - what a great interview. I had NO idea his dad (Anders Refn) cut BREAKING THE WAVES, insane!

I met him at the premiere, we had a nice little chat, but this was a really well done interview, not surprising given usual quality of KCRW.
