I just watched Hugo in 3D (Blu-ray). The 3D was used perfectly. It became part of the movie and greatly enhanced the viewing experience. If done properly 3D can greatly contribute to the viewing experience!

Anyway, other miscellaneous musings and personal observations in a random order from the Tech Retreat, which some may not know/know about…..

1. A tad more than 80% of the revenue from motion pictures is derived from non-theatrical formats. Please keep buying those Blu-rays and also the merchandising for The Amazing Spider-Man when available.

2. It is an indisputable fact that humans lose brain cells over time (same thing with corneal cells, for that matter) but Charles Poynton seems to get smarter and smarter as years go by. Scary. In a few years, I’ll feel comparable to an amoeba.

3. Yasuhiko claimed (in a bit about the F65, b.t.w. ….http://www.fdtimes.com/news/sony/fir...65-4k-feature/ ) that “our sensor engineers were ‘better’ than our recording engineers”. – Can’t wait to hear about when he’s alone in a room back in Japan with all the recording engineers.

4. Keeping on a camera note - from 'another' major camera manufacturer. Given the tone of the spokesman, I wouldn’t exactly hold your breath waiting for the appearance of Red Ray, i.e. another type of 4K playback format….other than 4K Blu-ray .

5. Random Statistic – 5 of the 10 highest grossing movies in 2011 were 3D.

6. Statistic based on FutureSource? Research – 1/3 of all U.S. homes are expected to have a Blu-ray player by the end of this year.

7. Despite, the first workflow Supersession being entitled “Snowflakes with an increasing chance of clouds”, contrary to some rumors, Marty Scorsese did not show up at the Retreat to augment the air with some of his Hugo snowflakes ("I want more, I want more") during Leon’s opening remarks. For that, y’all have to go here – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ed#post5851987

“The new display is capable of greater resolution than the current iPad, with more pixels on its screen than some high-definition televisions, the person said.”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/busine...hgR_story.html

This will not stand!

P.S.
Come to think of it, I’ve been teased with this same line before “We have something you really have to see. And touch.”

Twas back in the days when I was single and enjoying the ambience of New Orleans during Mardi Gras.

This just in -
Eagle eyes in the fatherland (Germany) have noted a spiffy VW speeding around, especially in the North, displaying a new personalized license plate reading…

The question is not whether catalog BD sales are disappointing; the question is whether catalog BD sales are disappointing vis-a-vis catalog sales in any other formats. Catalog sales in general have taken a big downturn and I think it probably has a lot more to do with the interested customers having already purchased them on DVD than it does with their running, in droves, to download/streaming options.

Maybe you can provide some data to the contrary... ?

Who can?

I'll trade you that plate and the car it's on for a copy of the Blu-ray.

P-Man,

Some better details on Chumps League impact:

Apparently, direct fallout from a failure to qualify would be 27 million, but that's pounds, not Euros. On top of that, season ticket packages would need to be revised downward, leading to as much as an additional 18 million pounds in lost ticket revenue.

This is before any of the additional millions in bonuses for proceeding beyond the group stage are considered. And, of course, again, it doesn't calculate brand-value impact, player-attraction impact, etc.

Doc, do you feel it is time for a new manager at Arsenal? The biggest issue with fans that i have spoke too seems to be the reluctance to spend big. A few years back, bringing youngsters through the ranks and buying potentially great (but young) players seemed like a good plan. Now, with the huge investments by various owners, it is like a cattle market at the top end of the table.
Having said that, i do feel arsenal will retain a top four finish next season (fifth this year, IMO) Sunderland, of course will win the title.

No. As much as recent seasons have revealed and exaggerated Arsene's flaws, I still don't think there's a better manager in the game. And I don't think he's lost interest or intent. There may be some executive changes that need to take place, but I wouldn't start in the gaffer's office.

Interesting. You are more patient than most i presume? He has achieved much though. i agree he is a good manager. However, fans are fickle these days.

So it very much seems.

How 'bout you, Penton? Have a current opinion on Le Boss you'd be willing to make quasi-public?
